Well the fact that energy is never created or destroyed seemed to indicate that the universe was eternal. And doesn’t the big bang theory only indicate that the universe began from a super hot super dense seed. We still have no idea of its true origins, but isn’t it awesome working it all out and trying to solve the answer to this ridiculously complex question…Maybe it actually is eternal, maybe this universe exists inside a black hole (Smollen’s theory), maybe your god did in fact do it, who knows, but lets find out…
Infinite past time is a contradiction and is not possible.

Past time has been achieved.

Infinity, by definition, is unachievable.

Infinite past time would be an “achieved unachievable” :hypno: which is a contradiction. :doh2:

There are no actual infinities, only potential infinities. This isn’t anything peculiar to Christianity. You can read about this from Socrates to David Hilbert.

I went to a youth camp a few years ago, where I thought i was born again, again… And as my faith wavered again I prayed most sincerely. You have no idea how much I wanted to believe. But as I learnt more about my religion, I doubted more and I prayed even greater. I started going to church nearly every day. And praying in church. But no…

And that was it, I didn’t fight it anymore, I had fought for 2 years with it and I admitted to my self and my family now, I am irreligious.

I am sure there are other people in my situation. You should remember that some of us actually really did believe in some god or another.
Abbadon,

There is no need to be religious to seek Truth. And there is no need to be religious to find Truth.
You spent 2 years diligently following the approach prescribed by the church/religion you were a member of. You discovered that faith is not simply a matter convincing yourself to believe what some church tells you is Truth. Quite possibly, you are now ready to embark on your own true spiritual quest.

Your 1st post above indicated you wanted to find out the true origins of the universe - starting without preconceptions. Apply that to your 2nd post responding to my suggestions to atheists. Do not anticipate where your search will lead. Do not expect it to prove or disprove any religious or church teaching. Seek the highest truth of your own being - find out the true origins of who you are.

This approach, however, requires you to take personal responsibility for your quest. And there is a catch. You must be completely sincere. If you are just looking for an answer that can be written down - you won’t succeed. If you simply want that type of answer, then check out various churches/religions/philosophys (christian or non-christian) until you find beliefs that make you feel comfortable and at peace.

i see what you mean. but you know scientists believe in dark matter even though they cant prove it 100%. it just fits perfectly into where they think it needs to be. which is why i dont understand why some are so against god. its like they can say whatever they want and its scientific, and unstable. but when we say we believe in god, were stupid.
Science points to God.

The acerbic accusations of fideism in this thread emanate from ignorance.

Every one live with on their family and realtives. But the god live only for all the people. He save the people in all times and any weare. I need to keep saying this to myself. We must forgive god atleast once. We must based somany times in our entire lifes. If the world have any trouble the god must overcome from that.

actually, i lived that way for 25 years until life hit me in the face!!!

i don’t know if it was spiritual warfare but the past 7 years i have been in a battle that i have felt i am losing!

becoming a Catholic i am hoping to get back in the good graces of God and find some protection in this cold and crazy world.

God through me a rope and i grabbed for it. i just hope i don’t lose my grip.

believe me, life is nothing to mess around with. i have learned the hard way.
the one thing you don’t ever want to lose is your soul.
Grab onto the ROSARY, deborahaz! It is sometimes called Our Lady’s Lasso – or think of it as a life-line to heaven. A priest I saw on EWTN once said the “average” rosary is about the length of a baby’s unbilical cord; interesting, hmmm?

As far as “living with the strictures of religion” (Tor), I’ve also heard it put this way: the Church and living according to God law is like having a fence around your property. It is there to protect you, not to keep you from going off the property. Or, it’s like an enclosure around the top floor of a tall building. Again, it’s there to protect you.

One more analogy: A train is able to go fastest when it’s on very good, strong tracks. The church provides those tracks for us, so we can be FREE to live and enjoy life. If we stray from those tracks, God allows us to experience some of the misery of a sinful lifestyle. Of course, there will always be suffering here on earth; I think Christianity is the only religion that offers a way to deal with it, and Jesus is our prime example.

God bless all the seekers - and all the believers - and all the in-betweeners!

Abbadon,

I hope you give your beliefs that there may be no God a lot more thinking and research. I wonder who came up with the idea of the Sun, which is 93,000,000 miles away and can, at the same time, heat millions of people here on earth? I wonder who came up with our reproduction system i.e. animals, humans, vegetation, trees, water and air. Where would be without them. If trees did not reproduce themselves, we would have no lumber to build homes, etc. If animals didn’t reproduce themselves, we would run out of food to eat, same with vegetables and lastly people. Can you imagine not having animals to provide us with food to eat, no wood to work with, no air to breathe, no water to drink etc. We would have only one very short generation before we are all non-existent. Where did this all come from, and from whom? Why do we have two ears instead of one, two eyes instead of one? Think about our complicated digestions systems, how the food we eat goes in different places in our body to keep us in fairly good health, and dispenses what we do not need. . Did this all happen by chance?.

You may be on the fence as to whether or not there is a God, and because of that ,you may not be seeking the truth on how the universe came to be and why you should seek having faith in God. You may not believe in heaven or in hell, and perhaps believe that when you die, you just die - period.

I leave you with this very scary thought: What if you are wrong about your non-belief in God, heaven and hell???

Please, I urge you go to church and meet/discuss your problems with the pastor.

Hey curtis:wave:

You are in my prayers that you find Faith in God and Jesus his only son.:signofcross:

I have tried so hard over the past ten years to believe in god; specifically the christian god but I just can’t. To believe in something, I need to be able to verify it with at least one of the five senses that god supposedly blessed us with and/or indisputable archeological/historical evidence.

I can’t just believe in something because everybody around me does; I am just not wired that way. I would love to believe and have faith in god but no evidence points in that direction.

I have looked at previous answers here on the boards so please don’t use the “how do you know that you exist?” argument. I guess if blind faith is what it takes to be saved and the christian god exists, I’ll just be outta luck. There, however, is no proof that I have ever seen for the existance of god, satan, heaven, hell, or anything else of that nature.

Extraordinary claims demand extraordinary evidence and that is completely lacking in my opinion. I hope not too many people jump all over at once for this post. Take care.

Curtis have you seen some threads by PatrickmWebb Glorfindel on this and other subject they might help. indisputable Archaeological/ historical evidence. If this is what you want, then the first step is to discover where these words or concepts came from. To know these words and their meaning, we must have a conscious awareness, we cannot see or feel it!! But it’s there, or otherwise how would we survive or know, that we even exist? Before computers were ever thought of they were already built into mans head that is where, the one you are sitting in front of now came from, and all the others that were ever made. Before the camera was invented we had a photographic memory which can recall faces and events of a whole life time. None of theses can be seen or touched, but we know their there, otherwise you would not be able to question the reality of God. And you say you want prof? these are only a few of the wonders of the human body,if I were list all of them it would take a life time.
God bless Curtis,
have Faith.

Hi Curtis!

Gosh, there are so many posts here, I wonder if you will even get to reading this one. lol
I just want to say I’m sorry for the frustration this struggle must cause you. I don’t know if there is anything I can say that will make you feel better or give you proof of God. All I can say is that I believe “written on every heart is a pathway to God”. My experiences of Him have been gradual. Slowly He has taught me how to know Him. He will put a wonderful thought in my heart that lets me know He is real. I believe He wants us to ask questions and seek Him out. I think you are at the beginning of a wonderful journey if you choose to keep seeking Him. I have confidence that He will show you everything you’ve ever wondered about, and give you the faith to continue. I can assure you, the joy you will find in Him is worth every struggle. There is a lot of love, peace, and comfort waiting for you. Take care friend! You will be in my prayers <3
