I grew up in Texas with country southern music and Southern Baptist being constantly forcesed me. I avoid both as much as possible. My Mom’s funeral had both, yes hillbilly music in a church!

Southern Baptist is as close as you can legally come to being the Texas state religion. You can fit 6 of my diocese’s cathedrals in the basilica like first Baptist church. When people move to this part of Texas they immidiatly join the Southern Baptist church and the Tea Party. Leaving the Catholic church to the Latinoes mostly.

Added. I actually love Latinoes. But whatever became of the Irish. Germans, and Poles? They are mostly in Southern Baptist or “non-denominational” denominations.

You might want to check the legality of Grooveshark. Last I heard its whole model was in a legal grey area to begin with, and on top of that it was being sued by multiple record labels for non-payment of royalties.
 
I set up a Pandora station for '60s, '70s, and '80s, and added some suggestions to suit my tastes more - some more acoustic singer-songwriter stuff, some punk, new wave, etc. But be careful, at some point I gave it “George Harrison” as an artist suggestion and seriously now it serves up “Here Comes the Sun” live from the “Concert for Bangla Desh” album within the first few songs almost every time I turn it on. Even with saying “I’m tired of this track” it keeps coming back to that. It also in general gives me a lot of the ex-Beatles.

It also got onto the idea that I like Leonard Cohen, which I do like his earlier material, but it doesn’t seem to distinguish the style and also serves up a lot of his later crummier stuff. I also notice I get a lot of live versions of songs where I like the studio version, and the live versions are sometimes crummier. However there are some good finds as well, like I occasionally get a couple of nice alternate versions of Simon and Garfunkel or Paul Simon solo doing “I Am a Rock” and “The Sound of Silence”, without the electrified studio instrumentation.
 
I happily located my favourite Sirius XM music station (“Lithium”/90s Alternative Rock) on Pandora… I sure do miss The Catholic Channel though.

Maybe if we wrote to them and begged? Pleaded? Anything, to get them on a free radio service. Too many good programs on that station that only Catholics with deeper pockets get to hear.

I’m a major Lino Rulli fan for starters… 😃
