I just wanted to let everyone here know that I have officially finished my application to join the KC and have been approved. My decrees start in September.Anyone else join the knights at such a young age?

Tell me your stories? Whats it like? Should I go all the way and get my 4th decree?

I also joined at 18, the Knights are a great group to become an active member of your diocese. I’m sure your familiar with the activities the Knights sponsor in your area, but they have a big reputation all over for helping those with intellectual disabilities. Most members stay at the 3rd degree, but in order to be elected to higher positions you must be 4th (i.e. Grand Knight and so on). Congratulations! I also thought it was cool to join young, but be forewarned most members are MUCH older!

Congratulations Brother Knight. I do recommend going all the way to 4th Degree. I am currently a 3rd Degree and at some point will likely pursue my 4th Degree but it just isn’t the right point in life right now.

Brother knights,

Take your 4th degree. Be active in your council & assembly.

Be prepared to explain the EC approach, and liturgy.

Only in showing that we are part of the Church can the stigma many Romans hold towards the ECCs be abated.

Congratulations! I am 22 and hope to get involved with the Knights pretty soon. I talked to a knight from my parish about it several weeks but then got “procrastinatory fever.” But when I do join the Knights, I would like to earn all four degrees, though I would be too poor (as a jobless full-time student!) to purchase the full regalia at this point in my life.

You’ll need to rent, borrow, or buy a tux for the 4th degree, and you’ll need a suit for the third (and possibly 1st and 2nd, depending upon local traditions). Unless you’re a military man, in which case your appropriate mess uniform is acceptable.

The rest of the regalia is nice, but not essential, for 4th degree functions, and many assemblies have loaner sets of capes, chappeaux, and swords.

Focus on learning the lessons of the Order, not on getting the glitz you’ll only need for special events.

I’m glad you decided to do this. It will be a such a learning experience for you to be with these guys, and gals, and for them to have a Ukranian Catholic. I’m very sure they will be glad to have a young guy involved and I hope you’ll inspire others your age to get involved. 👍

Is there anything like the knights of Columbus for women with degrees and such?

Actually their is about 20 to 30 guys from my Ukranian church alone that are in the Knights of Columbus in my town. Even my priest is a 4th degree member.

Hi Truelight:

There is such a group for women, associated with the Knights, called the Daughters of Isabella. I mentioned this in the other thread (I believe it was crossposted) when Cviolette asked a similar question. It is here:

In case the linky doesn’t work, here’s the pertinent information:

"There are some other options available. There is of course the Catholic Women’s League (CWL), which is quite active in our parish and does joint activities with the Knights of Columbus.

cwl.ca/

The United States has the Catholic Daughter of the Americas, and that might be a possibility too:

The Knights of Columbus has an auxiliary women’s group, called the Daughters of Isabella. It is here:

daughtersofisabella.org/main.asp

I hope this helps."

Not within the umbrella of the KofC.

Women’s Auxiliaries are allowed, but I’ve not seen one since I switched from Council No. 4859 to No. 9830. It’s nowhere near as formal a setup as the Columbian Squires.
