I just missed Mass because my alarm didn't wake me up. Did I offend God?

Highly doubtful that you offended God. God doesn’t punish us for things that literally are out of our control. Occasionally even the best of us can forget to set an alarm or sleep through it. Try your absolute darndest to make a later Mass though, if it’s at all possible.

The only thing I could think of that would make it in any way sinful would be something like your only available Mass being at 7am and you staying up until 4am knowing from past experience that staying up late means you probably won’t get up in the morning. Something on that level of carelessness/deliberateness.

It was partially my fault as I was up late… untill 4am! I get addicted to reading threads on this forum. Thing is, I wasn’t worried about waking up because this alarm always wakes me up no matter what, so I don’t think I set it properly

I missed all of today’s Masses. It won’t be on the day of obligation, but would going on Monday make up for it?

I’m going to have to say no, sorry. If you miss Sunday Mass I don’t think weekday Masses make up for it. I could be wrong, though

Confession? If, as Thyme said, his/her previous experience is that the alarm does the trick even WHEN he or she is up late, then Thyme has done nothing wrong that I can see in simply staying up late.

S/he was neither wrongfully careless nor deliberately intending to miss Mass. Although from now on, either get plenty of sleep or get TWO alarms or something (sometimes unfortunately I need more than one alarm to get me up )

Yes, I highly recommend going to weekday Mass if possible. It’s a great thing to do regardless of the Sunday Mass situation. And if you get there maybe 15 minutes early, you should be able to pop into the sacristy and ask the priest to quickly hear your confession before Mass begins. I say that because I know a lot of churches don’t have scheduled weekday confessions.

Are you asking if going to Mass on Monday will make up for missing Mass on Sunday? No it doesn’t. I think if your alarm didn’t get you up on Sunday and it was early in the morning and you failed to get to other Masses throughout the day without just cause; then you did not fulfill your Sunday obligation as far as I can tell, but I don’t know your circumstances about your day and why you missed other Masses. Did you sleep all day and miss the last Mass? I think we do have a responsibility to make sure we rise alarm or not.

Replace the clock with something more reliable and worry no more about it.

If you still feel concern over this, take it up with your confessor.

I feel no sin is involved, but your priest is there for more then to absolve you of sin, he also can offer advise.

Goto Mass times on line…there are often places where there are evening or afternoon Masses on Sundays…Shrines…Cathedrals…Universities…Monasteries…

I think Mass times include the UK… if not …you can check with your diocese website or maybe something like this there

at this hour…prob. Universities are the best bet…at least in the US they have 10pm Masses at times…

You lead me to be thankful that I live where I do. If I missed my usual 9am Mass, I would have three more opportunities to go in my own parish, plus a 5:30 Mass a few miles away, and a 7pm Mass at the university. It must be hard to live in a place with fewer Mass options.

Same. We have so many opportunities here on Long Island. It’s pretty difficult to justify missing Mass if you have transportation.

Wow, what a coincidence. My alarm didn’t go off either. It went off at 7:00, I set it like that so I’m not in a deep sleep at 7:30. Either my 7:30 wasn’t set, or I turned it off in my sleep.
Luckily, the cat woke my up at 8:38, exactly two minutes before I usually leave. I learned I can get ready for Church in Four minutes.
I had a strange day indeed.

I’m sure the poster meant mass times where you can find Mass times and churches in your area; not mass broadcasts.
