Today, I was able to witness the ordination of 13 new men for our diocese. It was an incredible experience to say the least. God bless our priests. Have you ever attended one?

Haven’t been so fortunate, but I do pray daily for more vocations. If you can get to attend the first mass of any of the priests, do so - for one thing there’s a plenary indulgence attached to doing so.

I havent but I want to, hopefully when my friend’s brother is ordained next year, I will be able to witness that. Hopefully years down the road i will be witnessing my own ordination!

I have been to a preist ordination (and will go to another next month), and three deacon ordinations. Sheer and total awesomeness, very long but they are so engrossing you would never know.

I had the pleasure of attending the ordination of our associate pastor last June. It was an amazing experience. I was sorry to hear that there are to be no ordinations in our archdiocese this year, but there’s always next year.

i found the part when they give the first blessing to their parents most touching.

going to the Los Angeles ordination again on June2. hm, the day of my late father’s birthday…

next i want to go to some religious order events. i hear those can be very powerful. i forget which one, but they lie prostrate on the altar with their arms apart like on a cross sniff

Haven’t been to a priest ordination, but a couple years ago our current Bishop was newly ordained as Bishop and installed. I was at that…was a great experience. The Bishop who had confirmed me about 20 years ago was there, along with many other Bishops and a Cardinal or two.

Thirteen?! That is AWESOME! I guess when you are in a diocese that hasn’t had an ordination in a while, and won’t for a couple more years, 13 is an incredible number!

I’ve been to a couple of ordinations, but it’s been a few years now. The last one was in 2002 for one of my very dearest friends and another priest in our diocese. It was absolutely beautiful!!! I loved when they lay prostrate at the altar, and when they were greeted one-by-one by all the priests (who were present) of the diocese. Oh! And when their hands are anointed - you just think about - those holy hands, you know? All of the life-altering things those hands will do for God for the rest of their lives - pretty awesome, huh?

Yes, thirteen men were ordained for our diocese but only one was American born, the rest were from other countries, four were from the African continent. They have left their homes and made the US, their mission. Thank goodness they have!

I have never been to one, but I would love to.

I would also love for my son to see one. I wonder how you seek one out.

In order to attend the ordinations, you usually need to be invited because the church fills up. So tickets are issued and checked at the church doors. So unless you get cozy with a seminarian, you may not get as lucky as my family was.

Keep praying for vocations and all of our seminarians.

the only way i know how is to meet people in the Catholic community. get involved in groups, communities, bible studies, etc. you’ll find that the Catholic world is actually very small. well out of the millions in my area (literally), there are the same people always at all the events. it started at my bible study. then i met other youth at other parishes. then i went to youth events and met people there. then on retreats. then at monasteries and convents. once people knew i was discerning my vocation, i got calls about the priestly and deaconate ordinations from all sorts of people. mind you, i’m not the social butterfly. quite the opposite actually. God just makes things happen. 😃

perhaps you can even try calling the office of the parish (cathedral?) where they hold the ordinations. just ask. who knows, you may get lucky.

I home school (attend daily Mass at least once a week), work at the church store, am part of CWA, teach CCD and VBS, if there is an ordination around, I should hear about it.

Problem is, our cathedral is three and a half hours away. 🤷

yowza! welp, maybe it would make a nice field trip one day. better start making calls! or maybe write them a nice letter? 😉

I’m so envy. In the major seminary in Singapore, there are about 5/6 seminarians. they are in the regency, 4th year, so they’ll start doing theology next year (God’s permit). So it’ll be another 4-5 years before there will be ordination. It’s worrying because most priests are in their old age and at least a priest dies every year.

Probably there will be ordination of religious priests soon, but I’m not very sure. Congratz to you.🙂

Our cathedral is also 3 and a half hours away. A lot of times when the man being ordained is from our city, some of the parishes get together and take a bus down for those who’d like to go. Being in AL, it’s not like there are tons of Catholics though, and we don’t have to do tickets and such for the ordinations (at least we didn’t the last time I went). Anyway, you could ask around about those kinds of things though, and maybe you could even organize something like that if it’s allowed where you are.

I am also in Alabama. A trip to Mobile would be nice. Now I just have to find out when the next one happens.

I’ve never been to an ordination, but I’ve been to several first Masses celebrated by just-ordained priests (my church seems to be a popular location for these first Masses, and the choir usually sings at them, so I’m up there in the loft).

Somebody mentioned tickets for an ordination – I’ve always wondered about this, do you actually need to be invited to an ordination?

Well, at our archdiocese, when deacons or priests are ordained, while there is ample seating…they want to be sure that each priest or deacon has seats reserved for their families. Depending on the size of the class, they will receive seats based on the number of seats available. Plus they reserve seats for ordained community that comes out to concelebrate the mass.

So yes, you are invited and tickets are issued in our diocese. First masses are held at respective parishes and usually it is an open invitation to the family and friends, no seats or tickets are required.

Yes, my cousin. He was ordained in 1971 and is now a Monsignior in a large north New Jersey parish. He was never one of those “liberal” priests. I was totally amazed that he cried throughout most of the seminary. When I look back on the pictures, Cousin Ron is frequently holding a handkerchief to his face!!
