I’ve committed a lot of mortal sin in the past mostly against the first commandment… I’m a convert I was not raised Catholic and I was confirmed maybe 2 or 3 years ago… my main sins were presumption and despair and I left the church a few times and went back to non-denominational Christianity and adherence to atheism for a while too and some new age practices as well… But I went to confession recently and by God’s grace I haven’t falling back into any mortal sin at all… And as far as venial sinsgo… most of my venial sins are always against the first and the fifth Commandments as well as lack of custody of the eyes… Can any of you give me some help advice or suggestions? I think both of my parents had a lot of sins against the first and 5th commandments too…

Will pray for you, and pray for me, as praying for the living and the dead is a spiritual act of mercy.

As much as you may already pray, pray even more for hope.

Above all, ask your confessor (preferably, a regular one) to guide you about specific problems (which you might already do)

The Divine Mercy Image is very helpful against despair–“Jesus I trust in you!” as a prayer will always help against despair.

God bless and grace you

Ask the Blessed Mother to help you.
Meditate on the passion often. Gaze at a crucifix.
Pray the Rosary daily. Use holy water frequently. Go to Confession on a regular basis.
Avoid all people and things that lead you into temptation; books, movies, etc.
Eat well and get plenty of rest and exercise.
Be patient with yourself. God appreciates your efforts. God bless you.
Speak to a priest for further assistance.
Remember, when tempted, call on Mary.
Praying for you. God bless you.

Enroll in the Brown Scapular and wear it.

I’m sure you’ll get good advice, taking this with a regular confessor would be very helpful
God bless and grace you

Praying to the Holy Spirit to give you guidance, direction, strength, fortitude & wisdom in your time of need.

Start your day with a morning offering. If you google “Catholic morning offerings” there are many to choose from online. After my morning offering I follow the practice of 3 Hail Mary’s. I say “For purity of heart” - Hail Mary…, then I say “For purity of mind” - Hail Mary…, Then “For purity of body” - Hail Mary… I end the 3 Hail Mary’s with “Mother Mary preserve me from mortal sin this day and the rest of my life. Amen.”

Then I pray the Guardian angel prayer and ask my angel to keep me safe physically and spiritually today.

Then I pray the St. Michael prayer.

And only then do I make my coffee and eat breakfast. It may sound like a lot but only takes 10 minutes max. I have seen a BIG difference in my life since I have started this practice. The mortal sins I was committing are not the looming temptations that they once were.

(And don’t forget at least monthly confession, even if we have no mortal sins on our conscience! This sacrament gives us special graces to not fall back into our same old sins.)

At night I say my 3 Hail Mary’s again with the same method I use in the morning (for purity of mind, heart, and body) and conclude with "Holy Mary my mother preserve me from mortal sin this night and the rest of my life. Amen. "

I then examine my conscience by going through the 7 deadly sins. I can’t remember his name but this guy on a podcast I was listening to gave an acronym to help remember. PALE GAS

P- Pride
A - Anger
L - Lust
E - Envy

G - Gluttony
A - Avarice (also known as greed)
S- Sloth

Then I say my Act of Contrition. Again, I know this might sound complicated or a lot, but it only takes about 5 minutes. Sorry for the long post, but I used to struggle with mortal sin and these are the things that have turned my life around. And it is also good to pray short, honest prayers like “Help me Jesus, I want to do better”, “Mother Mary be a mother to me”, “Mother Mary I entrust my purity to you”… Don’t overthink it. You can do this. ❤️

P.S. I used to not be able to pray my rosary everyday until I started praying 1 decade in the morning, then 1 before lunch, 1 after lunch, 1 in the afternoon, 1 while driving home, etc. Do what works for you but boy the daily rosary has also brought me spiritual strength against sin.

Prayer is key to all things spiritual: Jesus, as our mediator, sympathizes with our struggles and has known them for Himself (Heb. 4:5). He is our friend, so you must trust in Him (John 15:15).

Pray for the intercession of the Saints, perhaps, as well. St. Benedict of Nursia was a monk and he is often suggested against temptation. St. Padre Pio is known to be a powerful intercessor: he claims, and I believe it, to have been attacked by the Devil himself.

Go to confession, as that is a necessary sacrament for a Catholic, and listen to what everyone else says. God bless, and I hope to pray for you!
