If you really want to be different from the world, Christianity is actually the best way. lol.

One of my favorite quotes of all time is from G.K. Chesterton:

“Christianity has not been tried and found wanting; it has been found difficult and not tried.”
Seriously!!! I am telling you people sometimes forget that, religion is the “out” thing that should be “in”!!! lol…😃

I don’t have to wait. I can and do teach my children to be discerning in what they listen to and watch, infact that’s my job. Just because it’s out there doesn’t mean it’s good for us and being media savy is an important thing to learn in this day and age. It’s not like they’ve never heard pop music or rock music or whatever, it’s that we talk about it and learn about it so that we can make judgements about it. So take your smug-ness and go somewhere else. My children aren’t mindless drones bent on attaining the latest fad…
Okay… come back and tell me that when they are teenagers.

Maybe it’s not really about the latest fad, with all due respect, but it’s the point that in some way or another everyone is influenced by what’s around them in their environment, and in social life…Now-a-days with the whole acceptance of homosexuality, the need to get more attention and to do whatever it takes for it, to be more popular and cool, etc it’s difficult to fight against such influences. Maybe your children and everyone else’s might never even get the curiosity to know what it is like to do anything that certain t.v. shows continue on boasting about, and even certain songs like these (believe me that would be great if you never have to go through the whole fad thing with your children) but there is still just a chance that it could still happen and end up stating what the singer of this song stated you know? I mean what kid doesn’t rebel, it’s just how badly they do it and how far they go through it that will show how much influence these public stunts do to them…🤷
I am sure you are a great parent but believe me sometimes it’s really hard to fight against these things…and their influence might be more than we bargain for…😦
A kid *should *rebel (to some extent). Anything else would be a sign of a feeble mind.

Ironic, isn’t it, how many people (especially teens and college age) rebel by doing something which everyone else is doing?

We live of an era of people being “different, just like everyone else” 😃
TRUE!

I guess it’s part of growing, and the Hanna Montana look-alike girls of today are gonna look back and laugh (hopefully), like we did looking back to our Madonna-stage. But without a doubt, we have to go far and wide…and come back to were we started to actually find our tiny little voice among the noisy crowd.

And we are talking about bad influences in our kids, assuming that we are providing a healthy family environment, and we are practicing a responsible and vigilant parenthood towards raising happy, centered human beings. What about the kids whose parents that fight all the time and/or go thru a nasty divorce, kids that witness verbal and phisical abuse, kids that are neglected by workoholic parents… We are talking about time-bombs one episode of ‘the hills’ or one ‘kissed a girl’ song away to blow up! And unfortunetly, there are a lot of kids like that…

And then what?🤷

A kid *should *rebel (to some extent). Anything else would be a sign of a feeble mind.
I think that’s silly. Not every child rebels and it doesn’t make them feeble minded if they don’t!!! Talk about uncharitable!

I turn it to the Catholic Radio station or Christian
I do more of the Christian one with the kids as it plays more contemporary music with Christian themes.

personally the other song makes me a little ill and angry at the same time.

Here’s the thing - it promotes homosexuality/lesbianism which caused our whole scandal within the priesthood…something secular media likes to point out and shake it’s finger at while at the same time making jokes…and yet they make big business off the subject of non-traditional ways of life especially pervertedness in all it’s forms.

very very sick.

Like I said what kid doesn’t rebel at some point in their lives…🤷
A kid should question - but why should that questioning have to lead to rebellion? I know numerous perfectly well-functioning and intelligent adults who ‘own’ their adult beliefs through questioning and study, who nevertheless somehow managed  not to rebel while doing so.

I somewhat rebelled by becoming Catholic when I was around 20. I say this because my parents are Protestants and were not very favorable towards the Catholic Church. Yet, ironically, I would say that the upbringing I had - one which was strongly Christian - was largely responsible for my conversion.

It is interesting to note that my “rebellion” ended up changing my parents’ opinion of Catholicism drastically. They are very favorable towards it now, though I do not see them converting any time soon.

A kid questioning what he/she is taught by well meaning parents, and possibly choosing a different path *is *rebeling as I see it.

Well if kids (teenagers) follow absolutely *everything *their parents say without question, then they would be “mindless drones” in my book.

…if you are not having thoughts and opinions of your own by the time you are a teenager and have reached some level of intellectual maturity, then you will probably never be much of a deep thinker…

See in my book (and the Merriam-Webster dictionary) rebellion means both opposition AND defiance. One can question, in the sense of going into the whys and wherefores behind particular beliefs, and in the end own one’s beliefs as a result of this questioning, without being either in opposition or defiance to anyone.

For an example in a non-religious context, my maths teacher might teach me Pythagoras’ theorem. My adolescent mind will say ‘but why? why does the square of one side of a right-angled triangle etc etc etc …’.

That’s the questioning and ‘owning my knowledge’ bit. Assume, being a good teacher, she then (most of my maths teachers seem to have been female for some reason) goes into the whys, wherefores and proofs of the theorem, until they logically click into place for me and I accept them.

Voila, we have an instance of my questioning and then owning my beliefs in a completely mature way (I hope you won’t say that someone who examines what her maths teacher teaches and then accepts it somehow isn’t thinking for herself or is only guilty of shallow thinking).

Note that it involves neither opposition (since in my questioning of the Theorem I never claimed to NOT believe it, simply to not understand it, which is all that a great percentage of questioning amounts to) nor defiance of any kind.

I’m sure there are people who go through their entire lives working out most or all of their beliefs by such processes - and no, they don’t all run away from home, nor defy their parents or other authority or teaching figures in other ways, nor claim beliefs that are contrary to those of the parents/others. Yet they still DO question and deeply think about, and still DO ‘own’ their beliefs.

Hate the song…

Plus… music these days can be totally asinine! I might like country, contemporary Christian (esp. contemporary Catholic), and several other genres… but sheesh, I still like my classical every now and then!

Because clearly, kissing a girl is a bad example to children.
The song promotes same sex relations, since it’s a girl who is singing it. The entertainment industry is promoting sexual immorality to the masses, and they are buying it.

it’s just one of those songs that comes along every now and again. aww good ole one hit wonders…theres been many and there will be many more.

Could you simplify your post into a couple of sentences? I want to make sure that I understand what you are saying here.

So do songs about a cheating wife (or husband) promote adultery?

In a nutshell - you said that people who don’t rebel aren’t deep thinkers. I was arguing the opposite. One can question, and can think very deeply indeed about one’s beliefs and truly ‘own’ them, without necessarily rebelling. Rebellion is only one way of arriving at one’s own mature belief system.
So do songs about a cheating wife (or husband) promote adultery?
They can certainly do so - if they make the cheating into something ‘cool’ or desirable as this song does lesbianism.

Controversy sells. Pink has always been known to be edgy and controversial. She hasn’t come up with a hit song in a while, so she probably thought she needs to really push the envelope to get her name back out there. And here we all are!😃

The sad thing about celebs nowadays is that they don’t care what they’re doing to young minds. Many young girls looks up to female singers, and feel…well, if so and so says it feels good or is ok, then I should try it. Or there’s nothing wrong with it.

I still have not heard this song, since reading the thread, and I don’t desire to check it out on youtube. I don’t listen to pop music a whole lot–I probably have scrolled through the channels, have heard snippits, but couldn’t tell make heads or tails of it.

I just think that many singers don’t think all that deeply into the lyrics of a song etc…they just want to make a buck. They want to be the next sensation. I have always believed that those singers with real raw talent, could sing about basket weaving, and they’d be a hit.🤓
