I know I always ask dumb questions, but

I’m stumped, so please forgive me.

I know that, traditionally, the different Mysteries of the Rosary are to be said/reflected on different days (ie: The Joyful on Monday, the Sorrowful on Tuesday, etc) and that during Lent, it is suggested to say/reflect on the Sorrowful Mysteries. I also thought that during Advent. it is suggested to say/reflect on the Joyful Mysteries. I meant to look it up this morning, but I forgot. When I said my Rosary today, I said/reflected on the Joyful Mysteries. Well just now I looked it up and got kind of a mixed message easterbrooks.com/personal/calendar/index.php
that it was okay to do, but I could also resume the regular “schedule”, so I’m confused.

I know that God probably doesn’t care which one I am saying as long as I am saying it, but I want to do the right thing. Can someone please help me with this?

My understanding is that there is no “right way” to do this. There are some “suggestions,” out there, but it is up to you to do what you wish.

(And no, you don’t ask dumb questions…)

For myself, I doubt it matters. My own opinion (not endorsed by my cats) is that Mary just wants you to pray the Rosary. The exact mysteries of which day are not that important. And those who pray the Franciscan Crown or the Servite Rosary pray the same 7 mysteries each day.

you can meditate on any of the mysteries on any day, any time you say the rosary, you can meditate on only one mystery, you can mix them up, you can reflect on another scripture verse, such as the gospel of the day. It is private prayer. the only time you have to stick to the mysteries of the day is a public recitation with a group, so everyone is on the same page. Even then you might want to choose different rosaries than those traditional for the day of the week, such as for a funeral wake service.

I’ll have to look at my Rosary booklet, but I think that you do substitute the Joyful mysteries for the Glorious or one of them. But, if it makes it easier for you to remember to say each one in sequence (Joyful, Luminious, Sorrowful, Glorious), then that’s good too. In fact, that’s how the 54 Day Novena is. If you have a full 2 hours, you can even say all 4 in one sitting! It doesn’t matter if you say X prayer on Y date, or even forget something in a prayer. It’s still heard.
