He allowed it because He could see far down the road into the future. He knew artificial contraception was on the way.

I mean, If the whole world was full of devout Catholics “only” & had been all these 450 years (since Protestantism), we would have far fewer humans on the Earth right now… With contraception, sterilization, women’s lib…(etc)… & Catholicism, the human race may have died out by now… .
As concerns Catholicism…
How can you depend on devout Catholics to propogate the species…
since … Well,
Who do Catholics have for role models?

Jesus & Mary - both VIRGINS. And most of the saints were virgins… St. Jospeh may have been also (?)…

But thanks to Protestantism, well, those Protesters don’t want to be celibate… or at least not for very long… They don’t accept the celibate priesthood - 4 themselves or 4 anyone else… And, i hate to say it, but they seem to fall away from their devotion to Christ more easily than Catholics do… therefore, they fall into fornication more often… (I KNOW… i was outside the Church for a long time, saw and - sady - expeirneced many “things” )…
Anyway, just some ruminations on the possibilities of why God allowed (??) Protestantism… Maybe something had to be done to keep us from total annihilation… or whatever… 🤷
What do you think??

  1. Artificial contraception has been around forever - it’s in the Bible. Just the techniques are different now.
  2. I don’t think there is any proof that non-Catholics have larger families than devout Catholics - in fact I would guess it’s just the opposite, especially if compared to people using contraception?
  3. Also no backup that any religion falls out of their faith more than another - where do you get that? If you consider that at one point all Christians were Catholic, it would be arguable that more Catholics fall out of their religion than any other.
  4. God allows Protestantism because he created man with a free will.

1 Cor. 11:18 For first of all I hear that when you come together in the church, there are schisms among you; and in part I believe it. 19 For there must be also heresies: that they also, who are approved, may be made manifest among you.

Bishop Challoner’s note says:

19 “There must be also heresies”… By reason of the pride and perversity of man’s heart; not by God’s will or appointment; who nevertheless draws good out of this evil, manifesting, by that occasion, who are the good and firm Christians, and making their faith more remarkable.

Actually, i was being a little facetious… But i really don’t get that #3 thing… As stated in the Post, i was “out there” for many years… So i feel i answered that… That thing about how we once were all Catholics… i don’t get the logic ofthat one…
And of course, you are right, the answer to the question of why we have Pr is Free Will… I hate free will sometimes… 😦 But oh well, that’s the way it is…🤷

Thanks for the Scripture - and the Bishop’s comments. But it is kind of interesting how Catholics aren’t having children anymore. The married ones contracept, the celibate ones, well, they are either priests or nuns or can’t find a Mary or Jesus “clone”… :). With all this barren-ness going on… well, i don’t know…

I think the reason God allowed contraception was in order to wipe out the Protestants, and all who disobey Holy Mother Church.

But I have no idea why God allowed Protestantism, except, as Bishop Challoner proposes, to cause the Saints to stand out in greater contrast, and make their names to be known.

After all, if it weren’t for the Protestants, who would have ever heard of St. Ignatius of Loyola? 🤷

And you’re saying Protestants are* less* barren than Catholics? What a load! They abort and contracept more if anything than Catholics, certainly not less.

People of all faiths are definitely contracepting and aborting more - sadly and truly. But the Catholic church is by far the most vocal Christian denomination protesting and preaching against these practices! One of the few that still officially teaches against abortion in all circumstances and artificial contraception in all circumstances.

I didn’t say that… I am just saying that devout Catholics sometimes don’t marry or think that marriage is as important as the priesthood (etc)… But it is a fact that women who claim 2b Catholic are aborting at a high rate… In fact, there are more so-called Catholics than real ones… Only 30% believe in Transubstantiation… Only 30% follow the teachings about contraception…
That’s pretty sad… 😦 :ouch: :gopray:

God would prefer that they convert, but i do believe God is punishing people 4 contracepting. As stated elsewhere, i know women who used b.c. and then when they came off it, couldn’t get pregannt -EVER… Is there a connection? And/or is it God’s punishment?

I think it is wrong to think that God had to let this happen in order to save His Church.

Remember in the Old Testament? He wiped out entire human and only spared Noah’s family?

It was not the Protestantism that God allowed, but it was free will given to people and that free will caused Protestantism to happen.

Separating from His Church is the force driven by Satan.

But since God always brings good out of evil, I think the good we will get from the Protestants is the love of Sacred Scripture.

It is because of having to talk to non-Catholic Christians that I started reading the Bible more frequently. Simply because when we have to defend a teaching of the Church, they don’t accept anything but Scripture. After getting to accept the possibility that it has Scriptural backing, I can *then *move on to the ECF.

yes, I agreed with you; however, if I read it correctly, the OP seems to imply that God wants Protestantism to happen in order to save Catholics. I might misunderstand what he was saying though.

People loved the Scriptures before Protestantism came into being. St. Teresa of Avila was continually quoting from the Scriptures, and I don’t think she ever met any Protestants in her whole life. Certainly, she didn’t learn anything about the Scriptures from them. Her teachers were the Carmelites.

I am not saying every Catholic has neglected Scripture, just that many of us have neglected to read the Bible on a regular basis for one reason or another.

This is kind of funny. If you went to our Church you would be in shock. I haven only been blessed with two children (here on earth 2 in heaven), and we really stand out at our church (at least in my head). We have several (more than half of the families) who have six or more children. I have friends who have six or more children. I am sorry you seem to very wrong on this issue. When ever I mention to protestants that I really hope for more children. They often answer why you have your two. And than with a side note they say oh I forgot your Catholic.

Alright that was my two cents. Carry on! 😃

you claim to be Catholic and you say things like Catholics have fewer kids??? When was the last time you were at mass?? I don’t know about you but I am on my 6th…I don’t use ABC and I do believe in the real presence. I don’t think I am in the minority at all. Are you claiming this to validate something you are doing in your life? I am not sure what your angle is here.

I find these statements false and offensive. Marriage is vocation just as being a priest is a vocation. It is true that women of all religions are aborting at a sadly high rate. If any thing this is a off shot of secularism and not Christian-ism. And since you seem to like to point the fingers at Catholics I would venture out and say that Protestants only believe about 30% of what Christ taught also (actually even less).

I guess what I can say to you is instead of sitting around judging who is aborting more Catholics or Christians maybe you should start praying for an end to the murder of all babies.

Thank-you. As a newbi here, I was starting to worry if I’m in the wrong place. Is Ecumunisim contrary to Catholic beliefs ?
