I actually wonder how people manage in life without confession… seriously, how? 😃

It is interesting to experience the emotional release that is achieved in confession.

Self evaluations seem to keep mind clear of pride

What does going to confession do for you?

It does produce a sense of relief
Going to Confession and Absolution produces great relief as well as a sense of humility, in that God has freely, through the mouth of my Pastor, granted me forgiveness, not because I somehow deserve it, but because God is merciful. That particular Sacrament is very close to my heart. 👍

I get a little social anxiety and, having been a poor Catholic up to about two years ago, it still feels awkward for me.

And that is not a knock on the sacrament.

Dear Wesrock, it was the same for me for quite some time. I kept at it and over time it slowly has become a blessing, and I pray it will be the same for you (but even more so).

Protestants believe that they can confess directly to God. That’s how.
Yes I know they do… but it’s such a loss. Confession is a wonderful sacrament, being forgiven is huge… hearing the words, you are forgiven is a big deal. Being given guidance, reassurance and penance is also wonderful.

And it was meant to be light hearted, hence the big grin. I know people do manage, I meant it lightly

I love, love, love this sacrament. Love to prep, love to go, love to come out!

I often am in a state of anxiety when I go to confession. I have a lingering fear that the priest will not believe that I am sincere in my repentance and will refuse to absolve me. I don’t think that has ever happened to me, but the fear persists.

Nevertheless, I am always glad to have gone.

LOOOOVE it. Especially after hearing, “I absolve you of your sins”.

Glory and praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ. 🙂

I don’t think I’m ever going to “like” going to Confession. For me it is like going to the dentist when you’re scared of dentists but you know you need work done. No matter how gentle the dentist is and how much Novocaine he gives you, it’s still the dentist and one is happy when it’s over and your teeth feel much better.

I’m perfectly fine with accepting that I am a lousy sinner, but the process of Confession has been scary to me ever since I was young and although I have come a long way I don’t think I’ll ever be running to the confessional with great joy.
This is a perfect analogy, and exactly how I feel! 👍

Thinking about it, since I went to the dentist today ;), I kind of agree, but still love the end result.

Well I still hate going. Always have; always will.

Not because I think I don’t need it. I certainly do.

But I’ve got a bigger problem with what the Church believes about sin in general.

For example, if I subject to eternal damnation for eating a ham sandwich on Good Friday, what are to make of truly heinous things like rape and murder?

John.14: [27] Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.and PEACE is the intended end of Sacramental Confession.

[19] On the evening of that day, the first day of the week, the doors being shut where the disciples were, for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood among them and said to them, “Peace be with you.” [20] When he had said this, he showed them his hands and his side. Then the disciples were glad when they saw the Lord. [21] Jesus said to them again, "Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, even so I send you."
[22] And when he had said this, he breathed on them, and said to them, “Receive the Holy Spirit. [23**] If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven; if you retain the sins of any, they are retained.”

Which s precisely WHY this sacrament can be termed the “THE SACRAMENT OF KNOWN PEACE”👍

Re: I like going to confession ! it feels good! how about you?
About a decade ago, I mustered up the courage to go to confession, even wrote out all my sins on a piece of paper. I spent a good deal of time preparing.

In the confessional, the priest peppered me aggressively with the actual number of times of each sin - couldn’t hear him that well. After answering, he then refused absolution, stating “he didn’t have time to go through all this”.

Stunned, I walked out, and the priest followed shortly thereafter as Mass would soon start. (And, no, these were not grievous sins like murder or the like, I assure you!)

I only regret not reporting him to the Archdiocese. I will never go back.
