I dont understand how people call themselves Christian and Catholic can be “haters” of a boy who is trying to have a singing career for himself. It greatly upsets me that people who are trying to follow Christ jump on the bandwagon of hate against someone just for trying a singing competition? It makes me sick. If you do not think he is best ,vote For someone else. I cannot believe how many people in the media in their thirties,forties,fifites and beyond Larry King, all had hater shows about Sanjaya! What an unChristian cruel thing to do! What if your son was an aspiring singer or other talent, entered a competition, and was chosen as top 24 in the nation and someone decided he wasn’t as good as someone else and almost the whole country jumped on as haters and making fun of this kid constantly!!! He is a sweet,funny,good looking kid, I am so tired of defending him to all the mean ,cruel people who dont get it.So many people are just jump on the bandwagon and attack,attack,attack. He hasnt done anything wrong, he hasnt killed anyone, he is just singing and trying to be an entertainer!! Please give him a break and respect him as the human person he is !!!

All I hear about is this show. I’ve never watched it and don’t understand this national obsession. Why did people dislike this young man? I heard a gal jubilently proclaim that he was eliminated yesterday. What’s so interesting about this show?🤷
 
I think Sanjaya is very talented and I hope that he will have a career as a teen idol that will lead to a career as an adult singer. He is just the kind of young man that I would have developed a crush on when I was 13. Beautiful smile, and when he sings a song that’s right for him, beautiful voice.

Well to be honest its not him as a person I hate( because that would be unchristian)… its just his singing ( I CAN’T STAND HIS SINGING) because he sounds exactly the same every week. When he first came on with the Stevie Wonder tune i thought he did a great job… but he’s gotten boring and is now finally off American Idol, but your right they shouldnt spread hate…
 
I felt the same way … well, maybe not quite as strongly as you since I’m not an official fan or in love with him or anything - but I felt badly for him & his family, having to hear how terrible he was week after week. I agree - it was cruel. He is just a kid, and a seemingly sweet one at that. It wasn’t his fault that people were voting for him just to screw up the results. I didn’t think he was a great singer - but he wasn’t terrible either. I think he’ll do fine though… I imagine we haven’t heard the last of Sanjaya.

You got me, I never watch it. I wouldn’t watch it. I’ve tried to watch it. :confused: Put an instrument in their hands or something. At least have them write and sing their own original music. Then maybe I’ll watch it twice. 👍

I like Sanjaya a lot! He made things interesting on AI. But what I don’t agree with is the fact that such a talented singer chose to sing his songs the way he did…every week, I felt that he could’ve done much, much better! It’s like he didn’t even really try, in my opinion…either that, or he really started buying in on all the things he was hearing about himself.

Maybe at this point in time he doesn’t have the emotional maturity to really take his talent seriously.

With that being said, I hope he learned his lessons, apply it to his performances, and becomes a legitimate success, one way or the other.
 
They did a skit about him on Saturday Night Live.

He has definitely captured the attention of the media and the public. That’s a good sign.

Other “losers” on Idol have gone on to have a great career in music; e.g., Jennifer Hudson and George Huff.

I think Sanjaya needs to get a good manager, get a recording contract, do an album of pretty, romantic teeny-bopper songs, and he will have a huge following of young girls (and older ladies like me who wish he was my son!).

If he’s smart, he will save the money because when he gets older, he will lose his fan base. Almost all teen idols lose it when they get older.

But if he can continue to develop his singing and branch out into other venues like acting or song-writing, he could have a career for life. (e.g., Ron Howard, David Cassidy, Donnie Osmond, etc.)
 
The only thing that I thought was inappropiate was the tremendous amout of cheering heard from the audience when Sannjaya was booted. Not to mention that Simon had the biggest grin on him I’ve ever seen. That was totally not necessary. That being said, he should not have made it as far as he did.

What so interesting about someone wanting to be a doctor?

Or a lawyer?

Well…if thats whats in their drive then they do whats needed to realize that dream. Its no different than someone gifted with a musical brain moreso than a business one. A.I offers the chance to fast track whereas normally, these doors are impossible to open without connections.

And people are fasicinated about others having their dreams come true. Is that hard to understand?

Stardom and fame and fortunes are great things to aspire to. And the argument that this type of world leads to dangers is bunk as well. One could just as easily lose their moral compass in the business world as in the entertainment one.
 
I don’t hate him but I can’t stand his singing. I personally felt that he was not all that great. He’s obviously got "some"thing because he made it that far, but still… I was anxiously waiting for him to get the boot.

I’m a Lakisha, Melinda and Jordan fan anyway. 👍
 
He had the sweetest interview this morning on the Today Show. What a sweetheart! And intelligent!

He took his GED as a sophomore. Now he wants to go to college at a music school.

He commented that the show isn’t really about the best singer, but the best entertainer. Wise comment, I think, and I agree with him.

They asked him to say something about Simon Cowell, and his comments were so incredibly gracious, so mature. (Better than Jennifer Hudson, who dissed Simon). I was amazed that the young man could say such insightful and kind things about Simon.

So it sounds like he has hired a good manager, and hopefully, he’ll have a career. I hope so. If he made an album of teenybopper love songs, I would buy it because I think he’s just so very nice. We need to idolize more nice people, not sleezy, disrespectful types.
 
I personally liked Sanjaya early on before the final 24 were selected. His audition was great. But once he got to the final 24 he just wasn’t that good. I think what most people were upset about was that better “Singers” them him were being kicked off. Heck he was shocked when he made it to the final 12. He had a look of disbelief on his face when he made it, Remember. He just wasn’t that good. I think in the end the best are singers are left. My favorites from top to bottom are:

Blake
Chris
Jordan
Melinda
Laquisha
Phil
 
But Sanjaya made an excellent point during his Today Show interview. American Idol isn’t a contest to pick the best singer. It’s a contest to pick the best entertainer.

All the way back to the first season, there have been wonderful singers, some better than the winners, who didn’t win. (e.g., Clay Aiken)

There are many wonderful singers in the world with better vocal technique than all the idol winners combined. But they wouldn’t win on this show.

There is a big difference between a good singer, and an entertainer who can touch the hearts of the audience.
