When you talk to your priest though you might want to ask about being an altar server and not an alter server.I might become an alter server at a dioscean church and so I wanted to know what I should learn and know!!
Here in the Philippines females are not permitted to be an altar server or an EMHC. Only males may perform these roles.Encourage boys and young men to become altar boys (technically no such thing as altar server). This is not to say women can’t do these liturgical functions well. . . . The role of altar boys assisting the priest had a direct impact on future priestly vocations. The fact that girls are doing it chases boys away more often than not (this is certainly the case at the various diocesan parishes near me). This is also why Traditional Catholic and all Eastern Catholic Churches only allow men/boys to serve at the altar. It’s not about pitting one sex against another but is about the life of the Church (fostering vocations).
