I missed confession!

OK, so I’m helping my buddy & his wife move furniture & household goods out of their house & into the moving truck, and I tell them, alright guys, I have to JET because I’ve got to get to the church on time for confession. No sweat, BUT speaking of which, I’m filthy, dirty, nasty, so I’m not going to be in the presence of the almighty, about to receive a sacrament in a state of filthiness, so I elect to get home & take a quick shower. I get dressed, I run to the car, I’m makin my way to the church, & when I get in there, the priest was walking out of the confessional & started making his way to prep for the mass. I thought NOOOOOOOO!!! NOW I’m about to go BONKERS because the priests are always like "You really should do confession on saturday, or they say, well, just abstain from the eucharist but do attend mass. I DONT WAAAAANNA abstain from the eucharist…AAAAAAAAAHHHH!!! lol Has this ever happened to anyone???..are we allowed to confess online???..It sounds as though I’m joking, and as silly as it sounds, I’m also quite serious. I can recite the act of contrition, PLZ, PLZ, It’s simple, I broke a commandment, I took the Lord’s name in vein. I did it out of amazement, not anger…kinda like being awe-stricken, & THEN when I realized what I had just said & done, I did it again, only not in amazement…yep…aaaaaaaand here I am. So yes. Can I call a priest on the telephone? I mean, honestly. this is driving me insane, and I hate that tomorrow is sunday & it really is driving me nutz!!! So what does one do when they miss confession, there should be like a hotline,…I’d laugh, but I’m quite serious…THIS is going to drive me nuts…
 
Nope - confessions cannot be done on-line or by phone - only in the presence of a priest. I returned to church after a 18-20 year absence and believe me, I looked into confession on line. You made a valid attempt to go to confession so don’t worry - go at the next scheduled time.
 
I hate when you’re looking forward to something like that and it doesn’t work out. But, perhaps, God had a reason…

From your description, I’m not sure that what you’ve done is a mortal sin, so abstaining from the Eucharist may not be necessary. But you know that better than me.

After an 8 year absence, I too, thoroughly investigated the options of internet and email confessions, but came up short. You have to be there in person, and really, that is a good thing.

Pray that the opportunity to go soon presents itself. You may be pleasantly surprised!

yeah, but the next scheduled time is NEXT saturday. Tomorrow is sunday & I REALLY can’t stand the fact that I’m not going to be able to partake in the eucharist!!! Drives me bananas!!!

The penetentiary rite (spelling?) covers the venial sins, the lesser sins, what have you…

It doesnt cover mortal sins…(I can’t stand the jam my conscience is in right now…LOL!!!)
 
Some churches offer confessions on Sundays before Mass. Check some of the churches in your area (you can look at www.masstimes.org and find their websites, if they have one).

You chose to have a shower instead of going to confession? When you knew how tight time was? Do you honestly think the Almighty wouldn’t prefer your soul to be clean and your body dirty rather than the other way around? 🤷

As for not being able to receive the Eucharist - make lemonade out of it. Let it be a lesson to you to be more careful to avoid mortal sin in future. Offer the discomfort up for those who live in remote areas where they might go months without an opportunity to go to Confession and give thanks that in your case it’s only a week.
 
Call the rectory and talk to a priest, maybe there is someone available tonight or tomorrow morning before Mass to hear your confession. You can still make an appointment for during the week and avoid the drama next Saturday. :eek:

Evening mass is at 5:15pm at my church. 6:15pm at this other church. I did something tonight I have never done before & that is calling the parish office & scheduling an appointment for a confession for sometime tomorrow afternoon. HOPEFULLY I can get in there & make confession!!! UGH, I HATE that I have a mouth on me…it just slips out so naturally. UGH!!! I feel like that kid in school, PLEASE give me 1 more day to do my homework…UGH!!! The thing I find amazing is this: The number of people making confession vs. the number of people in the congregation on sunday. SO everyone was saintly ALL week long. Most of the time, I’m in confession twice a month. Not because I’m THAT good a catholic, but because I’m having that hard a time watching my mouth. Mostly the road rage, but THAT I fixed by listening to chant while I’m driving. Also, when I get spun up while driving, I keep thinking of the monks from my retreat & in my head I think over & over to myself, slow it down…slow it down…and then after repeating that a few times in my head, I forget that the IMBECILE in front of me is doing 5 under the speed limit, LOL! So, CHANT actually helps…praying the rosary does NOT help with road rage, because if you have to grab the wheel because something happens, you lose your place & you forget where you were at & then you break the 3rd commandment w. a rosary in your hand… BUT, for you smokers out there, the rosary DID help me through the physical withdrawls of smoking. SOMETIMES I said 2 to 3 rosaries a day. Yes, I was EXTREMELY prayerful. The rosary was perfect for that. SO. NOW I need to find some substitute or some way to watch my mouth!!! 7 years of Naval service kinda has a way of making you talk like, well…yeah. A sailor. I’m really working on that. SO…when I’m in confession, which is like every 2 weeks, I see the same people usually. THEN I see how many show up on sunday. I refuse to believe anyone is THAT saintly…I’ve gotten very good at being honest injun w. myself, the almighty, & the church. That church should be PACKED for confession. It’s always the same 6-10 people. A few of the faces change from week to week, but seriously, then they all take the eucharist. It makes me wonder sometimes…Dont get me wrong, I’m not judging anyone, I’m just wondering if everyone is being honest & faithful to the church & the almighty as well as themselves. It’s kinda like going to mass every morning, monday through friday, and then all of a sudden, it’s LENT & now there’s no place to park!!!..(yeah, that frustrates me too.)…LOL!!!

Abstaining from Holy Communion when you are conscious of mortal sin is a sign of grace working in you despite being in mortal sin. Obey God and listen to His Church: do not receive the Eucharist until you have confessed your sin and received absolution.

It’s a lesson in humility. “I don’t wanna abstain from the Eucharist” is not a mature response to the situation you’re in.

Just got done w. an in depth chit chat & it turns out that it’s not, in fact a mortal sin. I was mistaken. Mortal sin involves deliberate action, willfully committing a sin, knowing it’s wrong, etc. I blurted out gosh darn in the awe of a moment without thinking, it just jumped out. I wasn’t thinking about what to say next, it just popped out. Obviously the best thing to do would be to go to confession, but seeing as though this is in fact a venial sin, the penetentiary rite covers the lesser sins. I just have to remember to confess it anyway later in the week. HOPEFULLY I can get in there BEFORE mass & have an appointment tomorrow afternoon. See, I thought just because it was a broken commandment, that it was a grave sin. Has…nobody noticed that before? This is the last time I bring up issues like this again. CLEARLY when I said I dont wanna miss the eucharist, I’m not trying to be a brat, it’s the fact that I will not feel complete, etc. Sometimes it’s down right scary in here. I had to go to another room to figure out it was venial what I did & not mortal. You can put the torches out now…LOL!!!

If you do this, you will find it’s only a rare circumstance you use these words because they aren’t written into your mental dialog as an included element.

I can go on here, did you see some commercial with a scantily clad woman in it, we as men cannot help but to find it appealing, thus we just committed adultry in our hearts for example, how often do those get confessed? If you recall Job, he was considered righteous, part of it was because he atoned for his sins that he knew as well as ones he committed but wasn’t aware he did. You are driving yourself nuts over one sin that you are aware of, how many for the ones you aren’t? I know, it may not help much, but I just hate seeing people suffer for no good reason.

I’m not a priest, just another person that is backing up what another priest already told you. Anyway, I’ve been trying not to pop in here to comment, but I just had to help put this little saga of yours to rest.

Perhaps a PM to the specific people then. If you post an open question anyone can answer. I did not realize your first post was asking about what you said/did rather than about makling it to confession at a specific time. The title of the post was a bit misleading also.
 
of course praying the rosary can help with road rage… she is FULL of Grace, you know
