I thought this was only for people who got baptized as Catholics, not for converts! Is this true? I have to have a confirmation name? Heck, I didn’t know that! Where was I? LOL! 😛
Why do I need a confirmation name and what could be some good examples?

I need to pick one because my confirmation is right around the corner…

Most people choose a saint who they feel connected to- perhaps the saint is the patron saint of animals, and you like animals, so you chose st.francis, etc. That’s how most little kids do it. Since you are older, however, you may have one saint in paticular who has really helped you along your way, or has a similar background to you, or they are the patron saint of things that you enjoy.

It’s pretty much someone to be your patron- someone to pray for you.

Oh, I chose St.Therese of Availa.

(although lately it’s st.francis all the time before slaughter, ah well lol!)

Yeah, I read up on the life of St. Benedict and took him as my confirmation patron saint.

My wife who just came into full communion last year, chose Francis of Assisi, someone she has always felt connected to.

Read up on saints that you have heard about and go with whatever the Holy Spirit pegs you with. 👍

you don’t have to choose another name for confirmation, but you may if you wish, especially if you have a favorite saint you wish to adopt as a patron and model. you may also use your baptismal name. Research some of the saints and pick one whose store resonates with you.

When I picked out my confirmation name, I first researched the saints who had the name of Catherine, a form of my middle name.

When I found my confirmation saint it wasn’t so much as picking a saint, but finding a friend who had been praying for me all along.

Here is a good place to start. catholic.org/saints/stindex.php

There are others, but this one is a good place to start.

God Bless,
Maria

Were I you, I would read up on St. Dymphna. In addition to having a really kewl name, she is also the patron saint of mental illness. As there is not yet a patron saint of dyslexia / ADD / ADHD, I would recommend myself to her as the next-closest-thing, and ask her to be my prayer partner.

Of course, it’s really up to you. Perhaps you should get a book on the lives of the Saints and see if you really connect with one…

God Bless, and you are in my prayers,
RyanL

St Lucy is cool.
St Agnes
St Theresa
St Margaret Mary Alacoque

and hey why not be traditional and go

St Mary (the mother of God, so many other Saints share her blessed name).

Or Mary Magdalene to startle your friends that read the Da Vinci code, tell them that its your intention to be the bride of Christ.

Peace and good luck!

St. Rose of Lima is great (1st saint of the Americas),

Rose is also a name for Mary (the mystical Rose)

Anne is a good one, Mary’s mom, patron saint of moms (and my confirmation name, my grandmothers name, my aunts name and my sisters middle name).

Terese is beautiful, especially St. Terese of Liseux and the Blessed Terese of Calcutta.

Good luck selecting the right name for yourself. I know that I was completely overwhelmed by the thought and finally just picked the name that was at the tip of my tongue when I was asked to give my name. Over the years, I have come to really love the fact that I chose the patron saint of mothers.

God Bless,

CARose

I was seriously considering Thomas, after St. Thomas Acquinas and The Apostle Thomas. My given name is Tom, and I had a long road of questioning and logical evaluation on my way home.

I ended up choosing Joseph, most chaste Spouse of our Blessed Mother. I figured I could use a lot of help in my vocation as husband and father.

Paris, I’m so glad to hear of your pending confirmation. I’ve been watching you grow on these forums and you’ve been in my prayers.

I chose St. Cecilia…patron Saint of Music.

You may research a Saint that you find you want as your patron…and chose that name.

When I was confirmed…back in the stone age…the ceremony included asking me my ‘name’ and saying "I confirm you as Cecilia’ but you might wish to ask your RCIA teacher how the ceremony will be conducted.

As did I- she’s been a great prayer partner and intercessor, especially in her “specialty”. I came close to regretting my choice when I realized that I was not going to become a professional musician (figured maybe I should have chosen someone not specific to a profession), but over the last several years I have had several musical outlets open up for me within the Church- which has ultimately been more joyful and satisfying as I am able to do what I love, while giving back to God and community. Cecilia is a great prayer ally.

Even if you can only choose one at your confirmation (I’m not sure what the norms are), you can always choose others as your unofficial patrons.

Since your user name is Paris, why not look into a name based on the Martyrs of Compeigne? They were sixteen Carmelite nuns, all beheaded on the same day during the French Revolution. They had pledged their martyrdom to end the terror. Ten days after their deaths, it was over.
