I am planning on getting my pastor a gift for Christmas. We talk a lot, as he helps me with my discernment. He as made me confident in my call to the priesthood. I know I am meant to be a priest. He is not just a discernment guide, but a true friend, a father figure, in the spiritual sense. He is a Biblical scholar, as he holds an advanced degree in Biblical theology from the Gregorian University. I want to get him a book. A book, not a gift card to get a book. Please, just recommend books. He enjoys roman history, Biblical theology, and spirituality books. Many more too. Please give ideas. God bless.

Honesty, I think a gift card to a nice restaurant or Target, etc would be appreciated. If you really enjoy his company why not invite him to dinner on you.

I would advise you to go to your nearest Catholic bookshop and see what the individuals working there recommend. If you do not live near a Catholic bookshop, then I recommend perhaps a biography on Pope Francis or Mother Teresa. Is there a particular saint that your pastor is close to? In which case, a biography, prayer book, or medal might be a nice gift. Something like the Diary of St. Faustina along with a Chaplet of Divine Mercy is a very thoughtful gift, and I think the Chaplet is an extremely powerful set of prayers. Hopefully these ideas help, and I wish you all the best in your upcoming shopping experience.

The problem with a book is that he may already own the one you choose or have read it previously. I agree that time spent one and one having dinner and discussing theology and your calling is money better spent. You can opt to get him a gift card and a list of books recommended here and tell him that you thought one of these might be of interest. Other options are book props for night reading in bed or a nice book light. It’s truly the thought. Good luck with your perfect gift.

Another thought is a nice bottle of his favorite wine or adult beverage to sip while reading his collection of literature and a book mark.

What about a gift card to a place near you that sells religious books? Well, if you buy a book, and he’s a scholar, there’d be a good possibility he might already have it. With a gift card, he can get a book, that he’d be interested in, and wants to read. He can pick it out, himself.

A Nice silver/silver looking Book mark and get his name engraved on the back of it. If you go online you might get a nice one, A gift token to EWTN so Fr. can pick out whatever he wants. I have just bought my spiritual director his Xmas present and I got him a box of cotton hankies (3) a box of chocolate liquors, a mans toilet bag ( to put his shaver in etc)
Priests are hard to buy for, hopefully someone will thinking the same when it comes to you
Got Bless on your spiritual journey, and don’t forget to pray for all your brothers and sisters on this Forum.
