I am 35. I grew up as a “Novus Ordo” Catholic. A number of years ago I got mixed up with the extreme Traditional Catholic movement. Now, recently I have come back to the truth. I am looking for a good, detailed book on the new Mass (Novus Ordo). I’d like a book that goes into detail on the different parts of the Mass that explains step by step what the priest is doing and why. Also during these points what the laity are doing and why?

I have seen many books written about this Mass, but I don’t have the money to spend on them. I value your opinions - what would you recommend? Thanks and God bless.

One much-recommended book is ‘The Lamb’s Supper’ by Dr Scott Hahn.

Find a faithful parish which does the Novus Ordo as it should be done. Sometimes it takes some careful looking but once you find one it is very uplifting as you wont be seeing disrespect for God but respectful worship.

I have found a Novus Ordo Mass about 2 hours away from where I live that I can honestly say is respectful to God and without abuses, so I can worship without having to close my eyes when He is insulted.

There is nothing I find wrong with the Novus Ordo Mass when it is done correctly, I have attended about 5 NO Masses done correctly in my life and it is quite nice.

Any book on the Mass will do even if it is written for the Tridentine Mass as we should look at them as 2 forms of the same rite.
Here is the Catechism on the Mass

The General Instruction of the Roman Missal. Three editions of the 2002 edition are available on the internet:
USA’s at usccb.org/liturgy/current/revmissalisromanien.shtml
For England and Wales at catholic-ew.org.uk/liturgy/Resources/GIRM/index.html
Australia’s at acbc.catholic.org.au/bc/liturgy/200707031933.htm

One other thing, if you want to see the NO Mass celebrated the way it was intended, you should watch the EWTN Mass, which is shown three times a day. They do leave out one thing which I don’t miss at all, and that is the sign of peace. I have gone to Fr. Rutler’s Church here in NYC, and he also leaves it out. Trust me, it’s no biggie.

Thanks for the idea’s. I really wanted a book so I could carry it with me. I have the 3 missal set that Catholic Book Publishing puts out but I was looking for something a bit more descriptive than a missal.

I have Jimmy Akin’s *Mass Confusion, *which is probably not what you are looking for. But I believe he also has written one entitled *Mass Appeal, *which may be more what you require. Sorry to say, I have not read it yet.

Peace all.
