I need a good defense of the Apocrypha as scripture

Go to your profile, look for the place that says signature, and type whatever you want to.

As I said earlier, Paul quoted from a pagan source and neither one of us believes that book to be inspired. The fact that the books you refer to as the deuterocanonicals are either quoted or referenced is not proof of anything.

So, where in Scripture does it spell out, “This particular quote is being quoted as Scripture; while this quote is not”?

Then you agree that 1 Cor 2:9 can not be found as it was written in the OT and the quotation uses an unknown source and Sirach in it’s quotation.

I haven’t taken the time to look at it yet.

I do know that several catholic apologists have admitted that none of the “deuteros” are quoted as scripture in the NT. This would include Gary Michuta and Fr. Mitch Pacwa.

I would say the quote is from Is 64:4 but to be fair to your point, I’ll have to study this a little more.

I noted that it is a partial quotation from is 64:4, there are things changed and the ending does not fit Is 64:4.
 
The 7 books were dumped because the early palestinian jews maintained that there were no original works written in the hebrew language. however it is interesting to note that in the dead sea scrolls found in 1947 scraps of tobit , baruch, and i think judith have been found, in the hebrew . God works in mysterious ways, isn’t He great?

I also heard that Sirac was also found in a Synagogue written in Hebrew.😃

First, I can’t be more open to your point than to say I will consider it, which is more than you will get from 99% of the people you will interact with on the net.

Secondly, not every quote from the OT is word for word in the NT.

Greetings. I have just one helpful scripture reference to add to this discussion. Hebrews 11:35b (NAB) says “Some were tortured and would not accept deliverance, in order to obtain a better resurrection.” This refers to a story in II Maccabees starting in 6:18 and running all through chapter 7. This section contains the only specific refrence to resurrection in the OT. While many OT quotes can be attributed to more than one source, I know of no others for this. This may also may help explain the Pharisees beleif in resurrection.

I wont even pretend to know what all these words mean. But I am seriously curious about what it means as far as my bible scriptures. I always took it as a matter of faith that the bible contains what God/Jesus Christ/Holy spirit wanted in them. Is there more I don’t know about???
