What coffee maker can y’all recommend I get?

I’m abandoning my french press and haven’t had a drip coffee maker in years, so I have no idea what to buy.

I have a coffee grinder, so I don’t need a grind and brew one, and I have filtered water so I don’t need one with a built in filter.

I do however like the idea of one that brews into a thermal carafe type job, so if anyone knows of a good one let me know.

Oh, I’d also like to order it online, not schlep to a store. No time and snowing here for the next couple days means I want to drive as little as possible.

I know all you coffee junkies will lead me down the right path:p

I’ve gone the Gevalia route before - free coffee maker with the purchase of some coffee then I cancel after I get more coffee than I need. 😃

Check in some magazines, they often will have the deal with the thermal carafe.

I have a Mr. Coffee with a thermal carafe. It has a water filter insert…but we also have filtered water, so I just don’t use it.

But…I like Liza’s idea, I am going to check it out also. 😃

Dang, I was going to suggest a French Press. Just got one for Christmas and it makes awesome coffee. I use my cheep-o drip coffee maker now to make tea in. I can then have hot tea right after I have made it and then iced tea later in the day.

Anyway, the drip coffee makers I have had are either the $12.00 one I have now or a Mr. Coffee one I got on clearance ages ago. I ended up tossing it because the thermos carafe got water in it and I didn’t use it for a long time (I go between I like coffee and not wanting any).

So my question is why are you giving up the French Press?

Yeah, I forgot to mention, it’s not really dishwasher friendly. Mine did the same thing. I finally figured out the precise way to lay it on a paper towel, and the water would drain out. I just rinsed mine out with hot water after that problem arose.

I went the Gevalia route 5+ years ago and haven’t had any problems with my free coffee maker. =)

This is the one I am bringing to my brother, who just set up housekeepiung for himself again. If you’re going to go cheap, it does almost everything an electric drip coffee maker does. All ya do is heat the water on the stove, prepare the cone (up to 12 cups’ worth), and pour the water through the cone into the cafafe. If the carafe breaks, the cone with filters and coffee still works. Just put another container under the cone.

This is the one we have. It’s really not bad. We got it in late autumn. Last time we got one, Daisy was a toddler, so I can’t complain about how long GE products last. We use our coffee maker at least once a day, more in cold weather.

Serious coffee junkies want an IV drip.😉
I’ve had the same Mr. Coffee coffee maker for 13 years, shows how serious I am, when mom was alive I made it for her every couple of days when she would come over, in the last three years…I’d say I’ve made coffee 12 times, maybe more…maybe less…I’m a tea lady:D

I always feel like a Bunn is the best quality. Not the prettiest to look at though.

My FIL is a hardcore coffee addict. He drinks it all the time. We live in the deep south and he drinks it in the heat of an August day…sitting outside…in the sun…😃

He bought a Bunn, but he didn’t like it. Now my MIL uses it to make tea. I think he has a Mr. Coffee.

We have 2 in our house. My hubby’s is a fancy one that does lots of tricks. He programs his to be ready when he crawls out of bed in the morning. Mine is a Mr. Coffee that just has an on/off switch. 🤷

I got the “Hamilton Beach Brew Station” for Christmas and love it. Mine only makes up to 6 cups (I’m the only coffee drinker in the house), but I saw online that they also come in 10-cup and 12-cup versions. The reviews are mixed, but I love mine. I esp. love being able to dispense directly into my mug or thermos. 👍

Let us know what you decide on getting!
I second this one! My MIL has one, and I am thinking of buying one for us. My MIL likes it because she is notorious for breaking the carafes… no worry about that with this one! And I like that it is self contained and the coffee stays inside the unit until you drink it.

Dang, I was going to suggest a French Press. . .

I second that “Dang” (I’m originally from Texas, so truly can :p).

I know for a fact that the french press, which makes the only true coffee under the sun, was used exclusively by the Early Church Fathers and all Doctors of the Church.

For a fact, I know that…

(I prefer Peet’s whole bean french roast in mine, on a 10 second grind, 10.5 grams per cup, steeped no less than 4.5 minutes, cream optional but recommended with all GOOD coffee - YMMV).

Oh yeah, I love my french press (now that I unearthed it out of the cupboard). The only thing I struggle with is the water-to-coffee ratio; is a “cup” 8 ounces in the french press or 6 ounces? And how many tablespoons is 10.5 grams, anyway?

No, I’m serious. I love coffee but am bad at brewing it.

And ditto on the cream–I am suffering right now because I won’t be getting to the store until Monday and all I have for my coffee is soy milk. BLECH.

even I know that can’t be good!!
Oh, it’s nasty. A bit better than straight black (which is hard on my stomach), but not good. If we go out to eat at all this weekend, I am so getting a cup of coffee with cream, even if I’m having a salad for lunch! 😛

We have a Cuisinart Coffee on Demand and everyone who sees it, wants one. There is no pot. The coffee is retained in the pot and has a toggle switch to release the coffee. You can program how long you want the coffee to stay hot. Great pot. If it ever goes bad, I would want another one just like it.
