I need a prayer for my dad

Sorry for the double topic.

I need a prayer for my dad that passed away back in October. I just need something to recite every day to help him enter God’s Kingdom.

I can’t let my dad slip into purgatory… I worry he’s somewhere begging for help and I can’t help him. The priest said at his funeral to pray for him to help him enter but I don’t know what to say and I fear that I won’t say the right thing to help my dad. He made mistakes but he wasn’t a bad man.

He was Catholic but I…I don’t know if those on the other side will hear me since I was never baptized, broken God’s rules or absent from his church in well over 20yrs.

I can’t let him down, not again.

I can’t talk to my familly about these things because they seem like they don’t care.

Please help.

God will hear your sincere prayer for your father. God hears all prayers. He doesn’t require that you be baptized, never break a rule or go to Church every Sunday in order to hear a prayer. Please feel free to pray and know that your prayers are heard by God just as much as if you were the Pope.

There are numerous times in the Gospels where the Pharisees (devout leaders of the faith in Jesus’ time who were concerned with keeping all the rules and going to church all the time) criticized Jesus for spending his time and energy on various groups of sinners, like prostitutes and tax collectors and people who did not “follow the rules”, and Jesus pretty much told the Pharisees to get lost. (Which is how He ended up getting crucified, but that’s another story.)

I will do today’s plenary indulgence for your father, as I promised you last night. This is a special way of praying for a deceased soul that can help them to get to Heaven faster. I will edit this post when I am done with it so you know it is done. It takes awhile to do.
EDITED POST Sunday night 2-18 11 pm my time: I have completed the promised plenary indulgence prayer for your father to help him get from purgatory to heaven (assuming he was in purgatory).

I also found this prayer that you can say yourself for your father’s soul, any time you like.

A Prayer for a Deceased Father

O God, who hast commanded us to honor our father and our mother; in Thy mercy have pity on the soul of my father, and forgive his his trespasses; and make me to see him again in the joy of everlasting brightness. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Completely separate from this issue of praying for your father, please think (when you are not so much in grief, perhaps) about getting baptized and joining the Church yourself, not because it will make God hear your prayers better (he hears them just fine now as I said above) but because it will help you yourself have a closer relationship with God and get your own self to heaven some day.

God has blessed you and your father already … by opening your ears to hear what the priest said at your father’s funeral! Pray, pray, pray, for God’s mercy, then in thanksgiving for God hearing your prayers, which He most certainly does hear. May the Lord welcome your father into the heavenly kingdom,and comfort those left behind to mourn him. 🙏

I do not know where to start. I only know bits and pieces of God and Christ and what I do know I’m not sure it is correct.

The last time I stepped foot in God’s house was in 97’ and I always thought I wasn’t worthy of anything from God, Christ or any of the Saints because I broke his rules and I thought in their eyes I was just another Sinner not worth their attention… which is probably why I’ve always felt alone.

For everyone, I know and love I’ve always done things for the greater good for peace within my family which was all for naught because even with my father passing away, they still refuse to stop fighting or to help take care of my mom and dad.

Not once have I asked anything of God for myself, I just wanted the best for everyone else.

For me, up or down, if I were to ask him for anything, I just want him to understand and look at me and say its ok, everyone is ok, your mom, dad, brothers, and sister were welcomed in my kingdom. You’ve done enough, its no longer your burden to bear.

Jesus died for sinners like you and me. Jesus said I have not come for the righteous but for sinners. Because it is not the healthy who need a doctor but the sick. Jesus also said there is more rejoicing in heaven over one sinner who repents than over 99 righteous who have no need to repent. God is like the father of the prodigal son. He waits for us to return to him. And when we do he puts a ring on our finger making us part of his family and celebrates with a feast for his son was lost but is now found. The Church is not a museum of saints, but a hospital for sinners. Sinners are most welcome in the church. For we are all sinners in need of God’s mercy and love in our lives. Don’t think that God doesn’t want you. He died for you. Every time we celebrate the Eucharist we are celebrating God’s covenant with us, making us his children, in an intimate bond of love. Jesus loves you and died for you. I pray that you will return home to him. It would be great if all your family were in heaven. But, wouldn’t you want to be with them there too?
