I need advice

I have a bumper sticker on my car that says “Choice” = a mother’s “right” to kill her child". Well apparently one of the supervisor’s complained to a co-worker that my car is on the company property and is probably going to complain about it. She’s one of the big supervisors, meaning after her it’s HR. I don’t think she knows it is my car. I hope I don’t get fired or told to remove the bumper sticker, because I will refuse. I am scared please pray for me and give me advice. If I am in the wrong forum, please give me advice.
 
Unless the car is company property or there is a company policy regarding bumper stickers on employees’ cars in the parking lot, etc., she has no right to complain about it or make you take it off. And, if she tries to fire you over it she will be violating your constitutional right to free speech. So then, if she does, go to the local TV station, who are always looking for sensational stories, and see how quickly she drops the whole thing.
 
And make sure you document everything, dates, times, and dialogue…Heck, I’d even take in a pocket recorder.

Making a stand based on conscience is scary, because the costs can be real - either economically or socially or both.

I don’t have advice, but I will certainly be praying for you and for a happy outcome.

I don’t know how it would hold up but isn’t 'Freedom of Speech" guaranteed in the U.S. Constitution? And it’s on your car, it’s not a t-shirt you wear, so you’re not ‘shoving’ your beliefs in everyone’s face (that’ll be their complaint). I think it’s reasonable to fight it. I have a pro-life t-shirt that I couldn’t wear to work and I didn’t wear it to work. Maybe I should have fought it, I don’t know.
 
Once a situation of similar circumstances faced me. A man I was discussing it with afford this advice:

“You are Christian, right?”
“Yes”
“Pray, 'God my name is your name, protect it!”

It was good advice.
 
I don’t think an employer is going to want to get involved in trying to restrict your 1st amendment right of freedom of speech.
 
Nothing to worry about, unless there was a policy in place when you were hired regarding bumper stickers in general. I doubt very much that such was the case, as most companies and their lawyers realize that such would be considered unconstitutional (unless it was a matter of it being a company car).

Keep in mind that many times a person who spouts off about doing something is merely blowing hot air.

Best not to say anything about it being yours…let the message stand on it’s own merit. And Kudos for having it, apparently people are reading it! 👍

If you’re ever confronted by this person (the only way they could find out is see you getting in or out of your car, or if someone else told them it’s yours), report it to HR immediately. Harrasement for religious matters is something that HR departments take very seriously, because there’s no defense against it and it could end up costing the company mega-bux.

Don’t worry, but also keep detailed notes offsite about any conversation, phone call, memo, email, etc. that might result if this supervisor does have the stupidity to report such a thing.

And if you really want to make a statement, hang a rosary from your RVM. 😃
 
Also, if you know who the person is that has taken offense, pray pray pray for them. My gut reaction is that this person has suffered from an abortion and needs your love and charity. Even if that is not the case, praying for your enemies is never the wrong choice.

Thank you everyone for your advice. I ended up taking them off. Apparently it is solicitation and customers come to the bldg. If my job loses customers, they lose money over my bumper stickers. Then I lose my job, you get the gist. Also I was advised, there are more of us, than more of you and I am condemning others who don’t think like me. 🤷 I am in a lower middle class bracket and can’t afford the lawyers and aggravation this would cause me. I will just use my vote to speak for me
 
You can make a load of cash by sueing if confronted.

That is downright illegal.

That is too bad, Carjack. But their explanation up to this point is reasonable and I think you did well to take it on the other cheek, so to speak. However…

The proper answer to that is, “Well, if all your friends jumped off a bridge, would you jump too?” Just like mom used to say. 😉

Seriously, that is a scary mentality…pretty much mob rule,eh? In any case, I’ll bet anyone that saw your bumper sticker while it was on there won’t forget it. Mission accomplished. 👍
 
I was thinking about the magnet bumper stickers.Thanks for the suggestion. I live a heavily “blue” area. Does anybody know where I can get the magnetic bumper stickers?
 
I just googled “magnetic pro life bumper stickers” and got lots of hits.

You know, that’s brilliant! I can see the message getting out better when you pull into your parking space, get out and go around to the back of your car, open the trunk and put the magnet in there, then doing the opposite when you’re leaving work.

There has to be someone that will see you take it on and off, and bring more attention to it than a static bumper sticker.

Have you ever heard of the Alliance Defense Fund? It’s an organization of attorneys nationwide who have been trained to take on such legal cases and defend people who are being persecuted because of their Christian faith and beliefs. Go to their website:

My husband is a member. These attorneys are putting their profession to work in defense of Christians. And they do the work for free. Pretty cool, huh?

For what it’s worth, the American Center for Law and Justice (ACLJ.org) handles these types of cases often. It might be worth a phone call to find out what your rights are. I believe I’d fight pretty hard before giving up my right to free speech, especially inasmuch as it concerns my private property.

Also, it’s an incredibly weak argument that they might lose customers over your sticker. How in the world would they know that, anyway, unless a customer actually told them? Ridiculous. It’s just another case of the “tolerant” and “diverse” leftists trying to silence those who disagree with them. :mad:
 
I don’t understand…if your car is unmarked (e.g. doesn’t have the company logo/name on it) then how can you accept the excuse that this affects customers.

A customer walking into the building would simply believe it to be the car of another customer.

Is this a small company? Most large companies have a secluded/designated spot for employees to park.

It is a small company. I am going to get the magnetic ones. I am going to try again. I just don’t want to lose my job. I can’t afford to.

That depends on whether or not the local TV station is biased.
