My wife and I are newly married. We both struggle with scruples (her more than me I think). I think we both recognize that the way we are handling our spiritual life isn’t correct.

When we sin we feel cut off from God, distant, and unworthy so things like praying together and stuff stop (sometimes Peay just feels forced). Going to Confession should be our goal, but for long periods (months at a time usually) we’re just not ready, we want to be genuine and mean it.

any books to help?

St Francis de Sales’ ‘Introduction to the Devout Life’ jumped into mind instantly, maybe because I was recently thinking about finding or writing a review of it for our new Catholic Book Reviews Group.
I’m almost certain you can easily find a free ebook on the web, and try searching Francis in the Ccom Forum for more info in lots of posts. It’s a great classic–there are several very readable translations.
God Bless you.

My wife and I went through a similar period where we felt like we were drifting aimlessly. Through a number of adversities, we drew back together and have remained stronger ever since. Never underestimate the power of the Bible to bring us closer to the God who cares. In fact, might I suggest 1 Corinthians? Not only does it contain the famous “love” chapter, but there is a section about spouses praying together through difficulties, even when one of those difficulties is praying together.

If you have a Kindle you can get a free Bible for it at:
amazon.com/English-Standard-Version-Cross-References-ebook/dp/B001EOCFU4/ref=zg_bs_158280011_2

I’ve got some other suggestions for titles but I need to take a walk to the bookshelf and refresh my memory. Let me know if what I have shared thus far is in the ballpark.

A good little book based on “Introduction to the Devout Life,” which can be a bit daunting, is “Light and Peace”. I found it a great help and easy to read and follow. 🙂
