I need feedback...abortion

After watching the below video I posted on facebook a reply:

What I want to know is if I was too harsh? This is what I replied:

I find it disgusting that women are fighting for the right to kill their unborn babies. What hope do we have for the future when mother’s despise the babies in their womb so much they want them dead, when mother’s value comfortable living, convenience, their own pride more than innocent children, more than beautiful human love, when women would rather make their child suffer the consequences for their poor choices than suffer themselves. This is not about women being able to do what they want with their bodies, this is about pure selfishness. This is about saving innocent lives! This is worse than the Jewish Holocaust! Are all these women ignorant? Are all these women deceived? This video makes me want to vomit. They might as well be screaming, “Kill the babies, kill the babies!”

I have compassion on women who regret their abortions, who admit they were wrong, who suffer the consequences of their actions with a bleeding heart. Who don’t commit a crime and then try to “get away” with it. I have respect for these women for admitting that what they did was wrong and learning from their mistake. I love those women for having a conscience! But to promote abortion as a “health benefit” is just disgraceful. I think they should show a video of the abortion procedure before congress and THEN see what the results should be. I am so angry at these women right now!
 
Mentioning the Holocaust might be trite (though accurate).

Unfortunately, comparing things to the Holocaust has been abused to the point that the comparison is meaningless. There is even a joke about any internet discussion will eventually compare the original poster to Hitler.

As Catholics, we must work to portray the true in a meaningful manner. This might mean coming up with engaging, rather than reusing cliche arguments and examples.
 
I think the question might be better asked, “did my language soften or harden the hearts of the women I hope to reach?”

When you posted this facebook reply - who will be the readers of your reply?

What do the readers already believe? Do they already know abortion is wrong and is not health care?

If they already agree with the video, will they change their mind from your message?

I think we need to be careful how we speak if we want someone to listen and actually hear us and consider our view.

Statements like: “Are all these women ignorant?” can insult and anger some women so they will not listen to hear your ideas.

Well, it’s ten times worse than the WW2 holocaust in the US alone. 54,000,000 since 1973 in the US.

That’s a number equal to the entire current population of both New York and California combined. (source: Guttmacher Inst.)

Or a WTC 9/11 attack every day for 46 years or so. Every single day. Forty-six years.

If another country had inflicted this many casualties on the US, it would have been a war like none in the history of mankind for total numbers killed.

And it continues unabated. 🤷

You were right on with your response.👍 The world is blind, selfish, not willing to repent and drifting away from the Truth. God created the womb to be the safest place for a baby, yet it has become the most dangerous place. People were outraged when 2,947 people were killed on September 11th, 2001 during the terrorist attacks. What people don’t realize is that a tragedy like September 11th happens every day as 3,288 abortions are performed each day in the United States alone.

So many people in this world think there is nothing wrong with abortions or they try to justify an abortion. ISAIAH 5:20 Woe to those who call evil good and good evil, who put darkness for light and light for darkness, who put bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter. Your post could possibly open up someone’s eyes to the Truth. And no, you were not too harsh. The world needs tough love. The world is more concerned about peoples feelings instead of their eternal souls.

Remember that darkness hates light so be prepared for people on youtube to start the name calling, etc. Stay strong as God commanded us to be the light unto the world. You are doing His will. God bless you!

It can wake people up to the fact that this is not a trivial issue, and that there is another point of view - a view that baby-killing is not necessarily about “women’s rights” but that there is also another person involved - a person who is being killed for the sake of convenience.

11,000,000 killed in the Holocaust
55,000,000 killed through abortion in the United States alone
1,302,145,000 killed through abortion in the world

During the Holocaust, Jewish people were considered expendable by Hitler stating that the Jews were “non-people.” That’s EXACTLY the same argument pro-choice advocates use to justify the killing of helpless, innocent babies.

These are all the comments after my post (I changed the names of the people in the conversation for privacy purposes). Please tell me what you think, I want to serve God well and I need feedback from people on “the same side.” It might be confusing but each comment starts with a name and then the actual comment.

Harmony I believe you posted that quote before in its entirety. None of us is perfect. Your imperfections are forgiven as well. I feel strongly that many people are on the verge of believing or forming a relationship with God but fear being judged in a light of perfection. I wonder if when you make strong declarations like this one, if it might be helpful to include a very clear avenue to redemption, forgiveness, compassion, etc… If I had ever had an abortion and was exploring religion on any level, this post probably would have turned me away.

Jill I see your point. It is a delicate dance. Do I stand up for the innocent babies and be a voice for them or do I alienate a woman who has had an abortion? I do not wish to alienate anyone God loves all that He created, every single one of us. He gives children to women as a gift. Do I want to inflict shame on women who bleed over their abortion? Absolutely not, I want them to find healing and a new beginning and to be free from shame but I can’t keep silent while innocent lives are taken away.

Jill Honestly, My heart bleeds often over this issue. I see the women who have made this choice who carry the burden of self-hatred, guilt, shame, anger, depression, often suicidal. These women were not told the gravity of these post abortion affects. I also bleed for the innocent babies. I am sorry if I get emotional, I can’t help it. It is life and death! And Planned Parenthood profits off of their pain and misery!

It is very important that we wake up all people to the dignity of Life. From what I have noticed, we don’t wake people up when we speak to them with an insult. My comment was to mean: Will asking “Are all these women ignorant” wake up the women who are pushing for abortion?

If the audience for the OP’s message is a pro-life group - the message could have some pro-lifers clapping in agreement.

At the same time, those pro-lifers who work hard to make sure all their work outside the abortion mill remains at a peaceful presence - might suggest that the message on “ignorant” can add fuel to the flames of the pro-aborts.

There are different “camps” within the pro-life movement on the way to present facts. I was expressing not referring to “all these women as ignorant” in this manner.

The actual truth is that those who push for the pro-abort agenda truly are ignorant (without knowledge of the truth), or they are truly evil and know the truth but reject it. However, the word “ignorant” can be insulting - causing the pro-abort person not to hear the pro-life message.

I find that adding “fuel” with ideas like “Are all these women ignorant?” increases anger, causing the person who feels they are being called ignorant to “fight” even harder on the pro-abort side.

If we are standing face-to-face with someone wanting to bring them the truth and said, “Are all of you women ignorant?”, I don’t think they would be willing to listen to what we had to say.

You were not too harsh.

When I opened that page, it prompted me with “Do you agree there should be more good in the world” in which I ticked “I agree” and than it takes me to a page where they argue for the right to kill the innocent and defenseless. :rolleyes:

I think they are delusional.

I agree. That statement might contribute more to building walls than building bridges for people to cross. It’s already a polarizing discussion. If change is desired outcome statements that may be interpreted as personal statements may entrench some one further in their own position.
