I have a strong desire to stay pure and to be filled with holyspirit to live a life for Jesus. So step by step I started making changes in my life. I succeeded by the grace of God in most aspects like, I stopped watching porn, stopped using abusive words, stopped hurting people, trying to be humble etc. But sometimes I fall for temptations of flesh. Sometimes the more I try to be closer to God the stronger the temptation to do sin. I am not going to give up on seeking God. Please guide me on how to stay pure and stay away from the temptations of the flesh.

The best advice anyone here can give you is to seek spiritual direction from a priest in person, not strangers over the Internet.

Find a good priest (which isn’t hard) and go to regular Confession (perhaps weekly) with that priest. Tell him about your issue and use his guidance and support to try to help you crack the problem.

Against flesh temptations - prayers to St. Mary Magdalene and St. Mary of Egipt. Also Archangel Gabriel.
May they help you.
PS No, it’s not unusual for temptatioms to get stronger as you become more religious. Quite the contrary. That is exactly what happens when you attempt to get closer to God. Just remember &
He is your Father, He knows you and loves you, His Son one with Him knows all your temptations and your struggles.

Go to confession and don’t let yourself get down when you mess up. If you keep at it you’ll get there, but sainthood doesn’t happen overnight!

That’s what’s helped me at least. Things go from one mistake to a downward spiral very quickly. Pull up! Pull up!

In the heat of the moment, try to remember that you are in the very presence of Jesus, who loves you so very much, and who is giving you a powerful grace to foil the enemy’s suggestion. When you “see” Jesus in this way, it is hard to commit a sinful act in His presence. Let the storm rage as much as it will, but keep your focus on the presence of Jesus and do not let the flesh overcome you, no matter how strong the tempter attacks you.

If you have been habitually impure, your memory will be a stumbling block as it tries to present the pleasure in all its allurement. That is why you need to block that memory and “see” the presence of Jesus, perhaps using a picture of Him that is especially endearing to you. Eventually, you will find that this is less and less troublesome for you, the more you overcome it. It is important to banish the memory of the pleasure, lest by repetition of the act, you are increasingly more dependent on the habit.

Get through prayer into the habit of submitting to the Holy Spirit who is the One we need .

It’s all part of living what St Paul writes about in Galatians 5 .

" You , my brothers and sisters, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the flesh …

" So I say, walk by the Spirit , and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. For the flesh desires what is contrary to the Spirit , and the Spirit what is contrary to the flesh. They are in conflict with each other, so that you are not to do whatever you want. But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law .The acts of the flesh are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God.

" But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.

" Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit. "

I pray the little office everyday, it has helped me perhaps,it will help you.
Particularly if you remember whilst praying that you’re prayers are heard, that’s very important, God is not distant, the Holy Spirit dwells within you and is not separate from you at all.

When you borrow something from a good friend do you look after it? Use it properly in the way it was meant to be used? Give it back maybe even cleaner than when you borrowed it, or even fixed something which was wrong with it? Doesn’t that please you and your friend?

Use the Holy spirit within you well and return it to God one day in the same way.

‘Above all, we must be especially alert against the beginnings of temptation, for the enemy is
more easily conquered if he is refused admittance to the mind and is met beyond the threshold when
he knocks.
Someone has said very aptly: “Resist the beginnings; remedies come too late, when by long
delay the evil has gained strength.” First, a mere thought comes to mind, then strong imagination,
followed by pleasure, evil delight, and consent. Thus, because he is not resisted in the beginning,
Satan gains full entry. And the longer a man delays in resisting, so much the weaker does he become
each day, while the strength of the enemy grows against him.’ - The Imitation of Christ

Regular confession and prayer and daily Mass have caused a very significant decrease in such temptations over time for me. It was a gradual decline over months. I now find such things to be much less attractive. I would rather not upset Jesus and would rather spend time with Jesus than in committing sins that I’ll just have to answer for later and that put me out of a state of grace so I can’t pray for others as effectively. The stress and upset is just not worth it for the “six minutes of pleasure” I get doing some sexual sin.

If you do fall, get right back up again. When people ride a horse and fall off, they’re supposed to immediately get right back on the horse so they don’t build up any psychological barriers. So when you fall, get right back up on the horse of resisting temptation, then go to confession and move on.

Prayer is absolutely critical. Without it you will lose. Personally, I have this image on my desktop… Serves a helpful reminder. (Please Note: This uploaded content is no longer available.)
