Hello.
Ive been living in the same home for years and years now. Over the years, I have been feeling off in the house. I hear whispering at night, laughing, and talking. My mom said when I was younger, these were angels coming down to visit. I used to see two kids, two boys, laughing and playing in the backyard, but I had always felt off. Not happy beings, not at all. I have a certain hall in my house, going down to my parents study, and a spare bedroom, and whenever I go down there, I feel a need to cross myself and pray. At night, I feel the need to pray relentlessly in my living room and kitchen, even though we have an Altar in the house (Mexican Roman Catholic).
I’m newly 18, and already I have had 2 herniated spinal discs, and wake up with new bruises on me. I don’t know what’s happening.
We’ve had the home blessed before, but before that, the pianos would play by themselves, and I would see a shadow around the house.
Now, years after the blessing, I get terrible terrible sleep paralysis, and terrible nightmares that make me not want to sleep. My dad was studying to be a priest (American Catholic priest, he loves teaching the word of God, but wanted to have children too.) and his study where he has Catholic paintings gets ruined nearly daily. His paintings upside down, his crosses on the floor, it’s terrible. I had a rosary next to my bed, and the next morning the beads were on the floor. I thought it was one of my cats, but none of them were in my room that night, my door was locked.
I don’t know what’s happening anymore. Its not a spirit that’s hurting us, at least not yet. I don’t want it to hurt us, though.
If anyone knows a priest that I could contact, that would be amazing.

You might have some medical issues beyond herniated disks…have you been thoroughly examined by a doctor? If not, please do so and be sure to mention the bruising, sleep paralysis…all of it!

And please, talk to your Priest!

The word, “Poltergeist” comes to mind. I would suggest speaking with your parish priest as soon as possible, and tell him what you’ve described, here. If he won’t take it seriously, find a priest who will.

Certain house noises are normal, others aren’t.

You say you have cats. How many? Do they prowl around the house at night? Do they climb onto things and knock them over? If they are active and rambunctious at night, they could be responsible for some of the stuff that has been happening. I am suspecting feline mischief.

You say your rosary was next to your bed. Do you toss and turn at night? Perhaps you could have bumped it off the nightstand or bedside table while dreaming or switching positions in bed.

Sleep Paralysis is supposed to be normal occurrence while we’re in REM, to keep us from flailing around and hurting ourselves. One usually isn’t conscious of it, and it’s supposed to be temporary. I’ve never found myself paralyzed while sleeping, but then, I may not have been aware of it.

At least some of this stuff can be explained naturally.

Nonetheless, speak with your priest.

One more thing comes to mind: Do you walk in your sleep? Sleepwalking does happen with some people, and it’s real. Perhaps that could explain the bruises and herniated spinal discs. You might have been sleepwalking and fell or banged yourself against some hard surfaces.

Have you ever awakened and found yourself somewhere other than in your bed? If so, have you considered how you might have gotten there?

Perhaps you should also consult a sleep specialist as well as your priest. He might even suggest that, himself.

Sleep paralysis is scary, but, it is perfectly normal.

It is also normal to bump ourselves and not notice the bruise until earlier.

Art ruined every day as to be very expensive, to keep replacing it only to have it ruined again.

Please, speak to your Pastor.

the pianos would play by themselves
This happens in a number of horror movies, e.g. The Others, The Changeling, Insidious: Chapter 2, The Other Side of the Door, The Hearse, Evil Dead 2, and probably many more besides. Are you sure you’re not watching too many horror movies?

True, but the OP should also see her physician urgently. Unexplained and possibly spontaneous bruising is not a symptom to be taken lightly. I am not a physician, and I am not giving this as medical advice, but I do know that bruising of the kind described here can have a number of different causes ranging from the innocuous to the very serious.

I second what other posters have advised concerning seeing a doctor to have a complete physical examination and any relevant testing done.

I also agree with the advise given to speak to your Parish priest. Epiphany is not too long ago, but if you have a traditional parish where Latin Masses are celebrated, and if this Epiphany Water was exorcized and blessed according to the old rite - ask Father for some of this holy water. It is very powerful and spirits hate it. Also ask father for some blessed salt - another good weapon in some cases. The next step would be to have to house blessed again.

Every time I have had a cat, things get knocked off and pianos are walked across.

@anne9, there are said to be about 300 exorcists worldwide, duly authorized by the Catholic Church. It shouldn’t be too hard to find one near you. In the meantime, CNA is a highly reliable source of Catholic news on all subjects, including this one.

One question comes to mind -why don’t you guys move out of that house?
Also, since your dad wanted to become.a priest but decided otherwise, so he is not an atheist or agnostic, what does he say about all that you describe in your house? Have you guys talked about it? What does he say?
Praying for you and your family.

  1. How old are you?
  2. Are your parents aware of what’s bothering you?
  3. Have your parents done anything about it?

Talk to your parents and your Parish Priest about this phenomena. Speak to your Doctor concerning the herniated disks, sleep paralysis, and bruising.

Finally, consider getting a place of your own that you’ll be more comfortable in.

Definitely talk to your priest.

You could be experiencing something that is either medical or demonic in nature. Contact your priest. He knows how to get an excorcist to stop by at your house if needed. But make sure to see your doctor concerning these issues as well.

And remember, encounters with demonic spirits really seem frightening but they can never operate where God doesn’t allow them to. God has the ultimate sovereign authority over all created things, including fallen angels. They can do nothing unless God allows it for some reason.

Whenever you experience anything that makes you feel uncomfortable (spiritually speaking), be sure to cross yourself in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Pray Hail Mary. Pray often, pray aloud. You may get intrusive thoughts that try to tell you you shouldn’t pray but that is just a distraction. Praying hurts evil spirits because it reminds them of God from whom they are eternally separated. They fear and tremble at the mention of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Trinity and Queen Mary.

In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit we pray ✝️

Our Father, who art in Heaven,
Hallowed be Thy name.
Thy Kingdom come,
Thy will be done
on Earth as it is in Heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread
and forgive us our transgressions as we forgive those who transgress against us.
Lead us not into temptation
but deliver us from evil.
Amen.

Hail Mary, Full of Grace
Blessed art thou among women
and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus
Holy Mary, Mother of God
Pray for us sinners now
and at the hour of our death.
Amen.

Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit
As was in the beginning, is now
and ever shall be,
world without end.
Amen.

In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit we’ve prayed. Amen.
✝️

Cats do walk over piano keys and cause them to sound off. Most pianos have covers that can close over the keyboard to keep dust off the keys and protect them when the piano is not in use. If yours has a cover, I suggest you close off the keyboard. Then cats can’t walk on it.

I would be working toward moving out of that house as soon as possible. I would not live in a house that made me feel uncomfortable. Move out on your own, or go live with other family members. At least until you rule out anything health wise. But do talk to your priest, and get a check up too.

I stopped going to church, its gotten hard to get out. Ive been wheelchair bound for awhile. But no, I am trying to email priests.

Yes I have. He said the bruising could be iron deficiency, but since I’m not rough with anything, I don’t know how I could even bruise myself.
