I need help with cleaning tile grout!

YAY! HUBBY FIXED THE DOOR. :extrahappy: He felt good about it, too! He has enough stress with this move, doesn’t need something silly like this to take up our time. I will keep you all posted on how the grout cleaning goes.🙂
 
Hey WG, Hope your cleaning and moving are going well today.🙂 I would agree with those who suggested using baking soda as a way to clean and keep grout clean from dirt/mildew.
  • Sodium Bicarbonate, aka Baking Soda, is a Basic PH, mildew like other fungi and mosses need an Acidic environment to grow in. If you use Baking Soda to clean with the small particles will clean the dirt out of the grouts porous surface and any Baking Soda left after rinsing will keep the grout surface with a Basic PH at least for a while. But remember Baking Soda makes surfaces slippery so be careful to rinse well on floors or tubs. Sam’s and Costco sell 12lb bags of Baking Soda.😃
  • Acetic Acid aka White Vinegar is another great cleaner and not near the fumes of those commercial cleaners.
 
Our floor company said that you can lightly sand the grout - just take a little sand paper and buff lightly.
 
Welp–we moved–and it was tougher than I anticipated. Ugh–I am convinced that purgatory will consist of moving and unpacking.😛 But, it’s done–we love our new home…and we used bleach, with a gritty baking soda composition to go the grout…came out ok…

Thanks for the advice–I need a week to sleep now.😊

Glad to hear you are done with the hard moving. Now it’s unpacking and getting used to your new home. One major thing down.

Thanks jrabs! Yes…my husband said that he went back over the other home today, and found two cabinets filled with things. He was just going over one last time, to make sure we got everything…hahahaha Actually, I should stop laughing…I’ll need to sort through more junk, and put it all away this weekend.

Just when you think you’re done.😃 Anyways…I love the new place. I read something interesting the other day…I have often thought it was God’s will for us to be back in Florida, and the blurb said…‘it’s all worth it, if it is God’s will.’ So, if it is God’s will–it will all work out.

I am so happy - this was a big move for you. You are right - when it is God’s will, He seems to make it easy. Things fall into place.

Grout is used to stick the tiles to one another and walking on these tiles will eventually make them dirty. This dirt eventually spreads to the grout. This dirt gets stuck to the grout causing black stains, which can be removed by following below steps.

Step1. Mix one cup of Commercial grout cleaner with warm water in a bucket (or you can use Hydrogen peroxide if you are looking for nontoxic cleaning solution)
Step2. Pour the solution onto a dry floor so that your grout lines are completely saturated.
Step3.Scrub the grout with a nylon brush after 30 minutes have passed.
Step4.Rinse the floor with clean water.
Step5. If you get it clean enough you can seal it with grout sealer.

It’s better to get professional cleaners to clean those tiles.

Plus this reminded me that I miss whatevergirl. She was such a nice poster and regular in the Family Life section. 😦
