I am trying to defend and support the trinity whenever the Mormon missionaries come over to my house, but when I reas them John 1:30, they told me to read Hebrews. How can I support my Roman Catholic beliefs, defend the trinity and show them scripture that supports the fact that their church is false?

“But for us, There is one God, the Father, by whom all things were created, and for whom we live. And there is one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom all things were created, and through whom we live.”
1 Corinthins 8:6

In this verse, Paul plays on the different words used for God. He says there is one God - The father. But he then says there is one Lord- The son. Lord is another name for God. As Jews often referred to God as Adonai “My Lord.” Paul says there is only one God. But he also says that God is God the Father and God is God the Son.

Now compare the Corinthians verse with this verse.

“I and the Father are one.” John 10:30
This verse along with Corinthians show that there is only one God. But that God the Father and God the Son are both God.

“For in Christ all the fullness of the Deity lies in bodily form.” Colossians 2:9
Again shows the divinity of Christ as God in bodily form.

“baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit,”
Matthew 28:19
This verse includes all three persons of the Holy Trinity.

Hi!

This is a tall order. First know that, as with other sects, there’s a period of inculcation (three years with Jehovah Witnesses) where the members are trained in their sect’s belief system.

Here’s the simplest of targets:
They claim that their group is Biblical because of this verse:
16 I have other sheep that are not of this sheep pen. I must bring them also. They too will listen to my voice, and there shall be one flock and one shepherd.
(St. John 10)
However, Jesus was talking about the Jews (John 1:10-13) and the Gentile/Pagan:
13 But now in Christ Jesus, you, who some time were afar off, are made nigh by the blood of Christ. 14 For he is our peace, who hath made both one, and breaking down the middle wall of partition, the enmities in his flesh: 15 Making void the law of commandments contained in decrees; that he might make the two in himself into one new man, making peace; 16 And might reconcile both to God in one body by the cross, killing the enmities in himself. 17 And coming, he preached peace to you that were afar off, and peace to them that were nigh. 18 For by him we have access both in one Spirit to the Father. 19 Now therefore you are no more strangers and foreigners; but you are fellow citizens with the saints, and the domestics of God, (Ephesians 2)
As for Jesus’ Divinity, Hebrews 1 makes it known without contestation, the Son is God.

St. Peter states (Acts 5) that the married couple has not lied to man but to God because they thought that they could lie to the Holy Spirit.

We also have Jesus stating that God is Spirit (St. John 4) and St. Paul stating how to serve God (Christ, through the Holy Spirit), Romans 14:17-18.

You might consider not trying to convince them of anything. Simply being at peace with your beliefs is quite a testimony in itself. Neither should you have to defend it.

Someone recently suggested to keep pamphlets, that defend our faith, on hand. When they come to your door and offer materials, rather than making a debate, make a bargain. “I’ll take yours, if you take mine.” If they refuse, you refuse. Another good thing about having the information would be to learn it. If you’re engaged in a conversation then you’ll already know how to answer. Side note: my husband’s Mormon friend asked his, yesterday, if he would be his sponsor into the Church!

Hi!

Your husband’s friend wants your husband to be his sponsor (God-father) to he Catholic Church? That’s fantastic! Here’s an excellent opportunity for your family’s spiritual growth as you facilitate the road to the Body of Christ to a new candidate!.
