I teach 8th grade CCE, and was posed a question about the Our Lady of the Rosary devotion pamphlets in the vestibule. Specifically the meditating on the face of Jesus devotion, the three Hail Marys devotion, and the releasing of 1000 souls from purgatory devotion. I searched the internet, and could not find any solid information saying that it’s ok to do these. I just don’t want to teach the kids something that’s not authorized bt the Church.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

who put the pamphlets there? did they have permission from the pastor? find that out first.

The release of the 1,000 souls from Purgatory can be found here…

HOWEVER, this is another of those “private revelations”. Also, Jesus mentioned to St. Gertrude that the effectiveness of the prayer would depend on the fervor with which it was said, and the state of grace of the speaker.😦

In one her of her latest books, Susan Tassone gives this prayer, but drops the 1,000 souls bit. Mind you, it is still a good prayer, and I pray it often, even if I have no idea how effective it is coming from an RCIA Candidate:o

Here is something on those three Hail Mary’s devotion, written before the overhaul in indulgences. Seems to be another private revelation

Thanks for the info. I’m still at a loss as to whether or not I should encourage my students to practice these devotions. Does the Church approve of these?

So… “Say it like you mean it!” 😃

I guess if prayers start to feel like they’re lip service, it’s time for a new prayer.

I think ya’ll are missing the point. In these devotions, You are promised certain gifts for doing them. A happy death, Mary being your personal escort to Heaven, etc… If the Vatican does not approve, I should’nt teach them. I was just looking for info on whether they are Church approved or not, and how to adress my students questions about them if they are’nt.

you need to ask your pastor. there is not enough info on the website to make a judgement, does not say on whose authority the info is posted.

On this website you will be to be able to get informed about the kinds of devotions that anyone can put in practice.

People are you not getting it!? Her students will be asking QUESTIONS!!! on this. She doesn’t need replacement devotions she needs answers… An it could be she isn’t either A) Able to get hold of her Pastor or B) He isn’t sure either (Can’t say don’t know the man).

I found this
Our Lord told St. Gertrude the Great that the following prayer
would release 1000 souls from Purgatory each time it is said:
Eternal Father, I offer You the Most Precious Blood of Your
Divine Son, Jesus, in union with the Masses said throughout the
world today, for all the Holy Souls in Purgatory. Amen. (Approval
and Recommendation by Cardinal Pahiarca, Lisbon, Portugal, March 4,
1936)

as we said before cannot say until we see exactly what pamphlets you are speaking of, who published them, is there an imprimatur, do they refer to approved private revelation etc. Take the pamphlet to your pastor and ask him. You cannot teach or promote anything in CCD that is not approved by your pastor and diocese.
