Hello all. I am coming to you, asking humbly for prayers. I have found myself in a terrible predicament and don’t know how to overcome it. I am married, and I do love my husband. But I have found myself attracted to and lusting for another man that I know. This other man has no idea that I have these feelings. We don’t see each other frequently in fact it is rather infrequently - maybe just a few times a year. But everytime I see him, the thoughts and feelings creep back and I end up thinking about him nonstop for several weeks. It’s such a strong emotion that I have difficulty ignoring it. I don’t know why I am so attracted to him, it’s like there is chemistry. I haven’t had this feeling for anyone else. But I am also worried that even if I do overcome this, with this person, what is to say this won’t happen again in the future? How do I deal with this head on and prevent future incidents? I have been praying for guidance and for the clarity of my heart but today I just feel so heartbroken, as if I have lost this love! Which is silly since we never shared a love to start with! What is wrong with me?

And advice - and definitely prayers - are much welcomed and appreciated. Thank you so much for listening.

God Bless.

Good day and GOD bless. I am not sure how to really address this and probably don’t have great advise to give but I want to mention one of my closest friends to you…She too was in a predicament like this…She wasn’t married though…They had been living together for like 5-6 years though…AND soon after found her self wanting another man…BUT this man she saw on a daily basis or so…It was her bfs brother. And slowly the one she would run to for things was him instead of her man because her man would judge her and tell her things that put her down especially if she was down because of work or her kid etc… SO duh eventually the feelings grew…

She asked me for advise and since she wasn’t married I told her that she had to make a choice, either sacrifice herself from her wants and yearnings and pray really hard and marry the man she was living with, or let him go and do what she wanted…

She told me she loved her man, but couldn’t help wanting the other one…I told her she reminded me of the Vanessa Williams song, “sometimes we save the best for last” I forgot what it’s called. Because she was sharing her love with someone else and her dreams with another…Can’t work that way. She decided to let him go. And when she did that she found out that the only real reason she wanted the other one was not as true to herself as she thought and she hasn’t seen him the same any more. They are friends and that’s it, at least for now. She is giving herself a break…AND I feel proud of her because she decided to just give herself a chance at discovering what she needed to do…

I think that the best thing for you is to speak with your priest, and read the Bible. Go to counseling with your hubby to find out what is going on that is making you want to go astray, keep praying hard, more for guidance. Sometimes these things are tests and we must try to reach GOD more frequently in order to save ourselves…AND like I said speak with your priest he should be able to offer some help and support…

GOD bless take care and hope things get better for you! Will pray for you!

Our Father, Who art in heaven,
Hallowed be Thy Name.
Thy Kingdom come.
Thy Will be done, on earth as it is in Heaven. Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil. Amen.

I think rather than fret about what’s pulling you toward this other man, you should try to figure out what’s pushing you away from your husband. I’m not going to say you need to tell him about your feelings for this other man, but try to find some counseling or guidance to discover what is creating this void that this other man is filling for you and then try to communicate it to your husband.

Best of luck to you.

Good advice above… except… don’t drop this on hubby. It will only hurt him and maybe destroy your marriage! The day might come when you will have to… but NOT YET. Maybe never! If you want to talk about it, talk to a priest.

I might add that this is common. It’s part of the human condition. We lose focus in our marriages, get bored and start to wonder about life with someone else. Then BAM! someone attractive enters the picture, either at work, or through a friend. All of a sudden, we can only see the desireable traits in that person.

Try this:
Remember that this guy might have bad morning breath, terrible credit card debt, a violent temper, bad employment history, numerous infidelities in his past, a drug and alcohol problem, is emotionally abusive, has a sexually transmitted disease, three felony convictions, two arrest warrants, body odor, a five-hundred dollar a month internet porn habit, skid marks in his shorts, and a gambling addiction.

Obviously, I’m being a bit silly here, but not entirely. Just think about my post here and when you pray tonight, thank God for all of the blesssings in your life. Ask him for knowledge of His will for your life and the strength to carry it out.

Calm down, don’t let this bother you. Let it pass.
Be at peace & God Bless!

:D;)👍

I do think you have already received some great advice. I’d just like to add that you should not beat yourself for feelings that you experience. Feelings are neither right nor wrong. Sometimes I think that the temptation to grovel in guilt over what we feel is just the devil’s way of keeping those thoughts at the top of our mind. I don’t mean to make light of your temptations; just don’t fall into the trap of believing you are the only one to ever experience a temptation and that therefore something must be horribly wrong with you or with your marriage.

Keep praying. Talk to a trusted priest. Believe me, he’s heard this before (and much worse, I might add!), and he will have some advice for you.

Whenever a thought about this other man enters your head, replace it with a thought of something about your husband that is attractive to you, or a happy memory you have of yourself and your husband. It won’t be easy at first and may feel awkward, but you CAN re-train your thoughts.

It’s always humbling to realize we are subject to the same temptations as the rest of humankind. And sometimes the strength of a temptation can take us by surprise. But remember that God never gives you more than you can handle, and somewhere in this there is a lesson God is trying to teach you 🙂 I firmly believe that God can bring good out of every situation and temptation, provided we cooperate with the graces He sends us.

My prayers are with you! And keep me in yours, as well…luckily I don’t have this particular temptation, but God knows I have enough of my own to deal with!

If possible, see a counselor (secular, catholic, whatever) if this is really getting to be a problem. The most important question is probably not “why” you are attracted to and thinking about this man so much but, rather, why you “need” to do so.

In the meantime, you have my prayers 🙂

Take care!

Erick

P.S. I am a counselor and I teach psychology. This is not uncommon and you will be fine if you don’t act on these impulses and if you spend time doing some soul-searching.

Hello…
I think that you have to pray more to God so he helps you because he helps everybody and we will pray for you brother…
