I was a young convert to the Church, I recieved Baptism, First Communion, and Conformation on the Easter Vigil of 2003, I was so alive for the Faith. But since then I have fallen away and become a terrible person, I’m thinking about returning to the Church but its like I have this force stopping me, I cant do this alone, I need prayers. Thank You

Hi Willis,
I hope I can help you, I experienced pretty much what you have. I converted about
age 12 and was baptized, received first communion and confirmaion all in the same
year. I left the church as a teenager when Vatican II happened. I returned to the
church a year ago after a 45 year absence at age 62. It’s never too late. God
showed much mercy in drawing me back to Himself and the church.
Now like you I was a terrible person. An alcoholic, joining 3 cults, attepting suicide
more than once and much sexual sin.
A year ago through meeting a seminarian I made an appointment to see a priest who
has had much experince, he’s been priest for 26 years. During the meeting it became
clear I wanted to return. Father Lyons heard my general confession. He’s worked with
me as confessor and spiritual director. He’s helped me overcome being raped at
age 4 and also my suffering from bipolar.
Do you have a catholic friend who isn’t pushy that could join you in attending mass?
If so you might consider attending mass several times with your friend. And who
knows, you may find a priest you feel comfortable with and talk to him about the
things you shared here.
I will pray for you.

Thank You…ever sense I left the church my life has been in shambles, I’m intelligent but I barely finished high school and then dint continue my education, I hang around “easy girls” and cant get a nice girl to like me. I know going back wont solve all my problems over night but I hope if i can over come my doubts of going back that maybe god will help me start working on some of my problems

I am a Cradle Catholic that fell away in College.
I came back to the Church in my thirties after a hedonistic life.
I will pray for you!

Hail Mary,
Full of Grace,
The Lord is with thee.
Blessed art thou among women,
and blessed is the fruit
of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary,
Mother of God,
pray for us sinners now,
and at the hour of our death.
Amen.

Hi, nobody is perfect, not even the Saints, with the exception of the Mother of God. Try to do your best to resist the force that you feel is keeping you from going to Mass. Ask the Holy Spirit to give you an increase in your faith. God’s mercy is more than we can imagine. I’ll say a prayer for you.

I will pray for you, willis88. Remember to renew your resolve to follow God every single day.
You can do this when you wake in the morning. Say a prayer to God with your whole soul that you are abandoning all of your torments, joys, everything to His hands.

I have learned that the more we become detached and shed dependence to the ways of the world, and its material items, as well as to people, the less of a grip the evil one has on you, and consequently, we become much closer to God.

Willis88, you are exactly correct. You cannot do it alone. You need help. That’s why God gives you His grace and we pray for you to get more grace. Only with His grace can you overcome evil.

Lex orandi, lex credendi, lex vivandi.
As we pray, so shall we believe, so shall we live.

If you can, pray the rosary. It is the most powerful weapon against Satan that you can easily do. If you don’t know how, download the .mp3’s from the following page and sincerely just follow along as you listen to them:

The rosary is THE weapon, according to St. Padre Pio. It is the scourge of the devil.

May I make a suggestion?
One of the greatest things your soul can hear right now are the words
“I absolve you of your sins, In the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit.”

Gather up the courage to go. God is calling all Catholics to this healing sacrament, including you. And after you go, don’t stop going. You mentioned something stopping you. Don’t let any fear stop you. Jesus has already died for all of our sins, and is waiting for all of us in this sacrament.

After you make your confession, make it a point to go back every week or two. It may take a little time, but your life will turn around.

You mentioned how you want people to pray for you. Well, people are, but it is time for you to start praying. Start praying right now for the lady that Jesus has in mind for you. She is out there somewhere, and even though you may not know here yet, you want Jesus to take care of her and keep all the evil’s of the world away from her.

Entrust this women to Mary. Pray at least a few Hail Mary’s for her starting today. Ask that God takes real good care of her until that time that He feels is right for you to meet.

Keep up the faith, and we are all praying for you.

Hi Willis88,

Jesus so eagerly desires to welcome you home! So do we!

For me, one Hail Mary lead to the Rosary which led to Confession and regular Mass. If you take one step toward God in prayer, he will take two steps toward you. (and who can even conceive how big His steps are? 😉 )

I am personally much comforted by studying the lives of the saints. Many of our holiest brothers and sisters were repented sinners. For instance, the life of St. Augustine never fails to amaze me. He was a wanderer for a great deal of his young life before embracing Christ.

Turn to Him. Scripture reminds us of His mercy. I will quote one passage, but rest assured there are many, many more.

“As far as the east is from the west, so far does he remove our transgressions from us.” (Psalm 103:12).

Let’s go to Him and let Him do the the hard work. Jesus was willing to endure His Passion for our forgiveness.

No doubt, the return is hard and scary at times, but we are praying for you, as do the angels and saints. Take heart.

Our Father, who art in Heaven,
hallowed be Thy Name.
Thy kingdom come,
Thy will be done,
on earth as it is in Heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread,
and forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen.

Hail Mary, full of grace,
the Lord is with thee.
Blessed art thou amongst women,
and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary, mother of God,
pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen.

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit. As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.
Blessed art thou
