Hello! I am in need of advice/guidance/whatever. Recently I went back to where I came from to try to start my life by going to school and getting a job. The thing is, I had to stay with my sister and she was the only support I had. However, to my dismay I discovered how my sister was constantly lying about things. Lying about things that I don’t think were necessary. She even took all the money I had in my bank account. I ended up coming back since I could not trust her. I have a hard time living with someone I can not trust. Now my sister is really upset and now I am questioning if what I did was right. This thing has been bothering me for almost two months now. Hopefully I am not making her sound bad or anything because I know she means well. Any help would be greatly appreciated! 😦

My wife’s family has been stealing from her since she was a little girl. (in excess of $50,000 since we’ve been married)

We’ve been told by numerous Priests and counselors that poor behavior (theft) is completely unacceptable and you are under no obligation to put up with it.

I don’t think you did anything wrong.

Hi, your charitable retreat from living with your sister is probably the best lesson you can give that her behaviour is wrong. She means well, but her behaviour is dishonest and taking advantage of your trust.

You are not responsible for her reaction, so don’t take it on board or feel guilty…ie, don’t let her manipulate you or how you feel.

Have you quietly and respectfully told her why you have left, in the hope that she will re-consider how she should behave, and perhaps seek treatment and grace to overcome this behaviour…but please don’t take to yourself if she behaves badly because she has lost this power over you, or bad behaviour because she has been found out to be a thief.

I pray that you find greater support and strength in your life. May God take good care of you.

God bless and help your sister. May His Spirit transform her mind, heart, and behaviour. I’m sure that you pray for her. That, and your calm, kind honesty is the best you can do for her. You love her but not that behaviour.

Please take care of yourself, Trishie
