Somehow I believe the Lord has been proving me several test. Over the past several weeks at work a very very pleasant young man(about 21 yo) has somehow presented his J. Witness beliefs possibly due to the medical nature of our work or during “casual talk”. In the process I have had to support my beliefs in the kind and gentle nature as described in 1 Peter 3:15.
The bottom line seems to be that he regonizes the truth … because days afterward he in crude vernacular of youth stated to me… “you blew me away” . I nearly simultaneously accepted his compliments, but clearified that what I spoke was not of my invention. It was simply the truth that was out there for him just as much as for me.
We’ve left this in kind terms. He has offered me a JW article he has selected specifically for me, but has not given it to me. I wonder if he thinks I am just going to scrutinize it. I do not want to antagonize him. I have never treated him or his doctrine without respect. I only question the authority of the Watchtower.
Therefore I recently read the book by apologist Jason Everet “Answering Jehovah’s Witnesses”. Its simply great! I find his referece material excellent, particularly that which displays the Watchtower’s overt historical contraditions. However I want to show him and any fellow JW vistitors actual copies of the Watchtower and other such JW literature. I am essentially playing devil’s advocate. However, I can not find copies of ANY Watchtower literature ANYWHERE. I’ve searched throughout the internet, main public libraries, even University Libraries and can’t find precise copies or microfilm copies of either Watchtower(or its old Reprints and other versions), Awake, or the Golden Age, etc.
I figure a local Kingdom Hall may have the material, however, Jason Evert says researching and questioning JW doctrine is highly discouraged by them. Therefore I feel very unconfortable visting a Hall as I think this would be very unusual for them to deal with me. Though if I need to go there to get my material I will do anything to defend the Word of God.
Can anyone help me find this material.
PS: Coinsedentally, this morning, after living 5 plus years at my present home and never visited by JW. I was visited by two nice, but misinformed Witnesses.
Interestingly, I asked them to read 1 Timothy 3:15 Which clearly points out “the pillar and support of truth”, Christ’ church - questioning the organization that provided the “scriptural” support material. After a brief discussion and comparision of bibles I found them eager to leave- after only 5 minutes(which I find very strange for Witnesses). My wife’s friend had pulled into the driveway - they quickly pointed I had a visitor and said they had to leave- never letting me explain to them that they were here for my wife. Leaving a small booklet in the their rush and telling me they will visit again soon. ? Was I harsh? Did I discourage them as they almost seemed relieved they “had” to leave? It was all so obvious that I did not want to go out of my way to explain to them that we could continue our conversation.
