I have always believed in God and our Lord Jesus Christ. Since Tuesday I’ve been extremely upset and sad, I’ve been crying I am so upset. I was on the internet and some athiests were acting as usual in their arrogant way preaching evolution. I always have believed in creation and I feel thiestic evolution in contradictory to the Bible. Everytime the athiests have said this stuff, I’ve just brushed it off and forgot about it, but on Tuesday i just got the strangest feeling, and I’m feeling as though I am losing my faith. I’ve talked to several priests and both believe in thiestic evolution.

Wednesday night I prayed to God and I think I recieved a message. I was looking around on TV and I stopped on a Christian network, and the man on there talking, Andrew Wommack, was talking about exactly what was happening to me. So that night I went to bed and I started believing again, but this morning I started douting.

I was crying all this morning and was praying. I do believe in God, but, I feel like something is trying to prevent me from believing.

Please I don’t know what to do, I really need some prayers. I really need some help.

Thank you.

Praying for you. God allows doubts to strengthen our faith. Thomas the apostle doubted too.

God Bless You.

“Blessed are they who have not seen but believe.”

Welcome to CAF, Dylan!
I keep you in my prayer. When in doubt, don’t hang around with those who don’t believe in God, it is just not going to help you.

Ask God to help your unbelief.

God bless.

C.S. Lewis wrote in The Screwtape Letters something along the lines of God allows us to experience high’s and low’s in our journey of faith, and while humans enjoy the high’s, it is the low’s that truly help us grow in faith and trust in the Lord. If we were to experience the ‘high’ all the time, there would be no reason to strive for a closer relationship with God. We should not give up during a low, but trust in Him.

The point is you are experiencing a low right now, and there may be nothing you can do except pray through it. I long ago told God “I know I cannot truthfully promise that I will never fail you, but what I can promise is I will always return; always go back to confession, always attend mass. Even if I don’t feel You, I will trust that You are there and I will continue to pray. I will always return.” You may not feel God’s presence right now, but you’re being given a gift! It is not our feelings or emotions that guide us with God, but the basic fact that He does exist and is there for us. Trust Him, continue to pray, believe as you’ve been led to believe and in the end, one day, you’ll look and up and think “Hey, I’m back with You, Lord!”. I’ll be praying for you.

And water’s right. Avoid naysayers and unbelievers; if you’re in pain you don’t take a hammer to your shins - it’s the same with Faith.

I believe for a while and then it comes back. I am so depressed.

It feels like there it some kind of demonic force preventing me from believing, I am so scared, I don’t know what to do…

Pray, pray, pray, everyone has difficulties. I’ll pray for you too. There’s nothing you can’t tell God and ask help in.

If there is demonic force, there is an opposite force - God’s love.
Go to chapel of your church and talk to Jesus in the tabernacle all your problems. Never try to fight this doubt on your own, but bring your doubt to Jesus and ask Him to help you your unbelieve.

The Divine Mercy and the Rosary are very powerful prayers.

May God’s peace, love and mercy be with you all!

Science and religion are not in competition. We have to see science as a tool in helping us in a small way to understand and appreciate the omnipotence, goodness and greatness of our Good God. Even if we try to understand Him, we can never fully do so for He is infinite and we are only finite. So don’t feel discouraged but instead just have faith and constantly trust in Him and He will never fail you.

About the big bang, someone would have to start the “big bang” in order for it to happen- that “Someone” would have to be the One Who has no beginning and no end, which can only be God.

Receiving the sacraments of holy communion and confession are great help in increasing our faith, hope and love of God, and at the same time diminishes the evil influence in our lives and help us overcome temptations.

We are praying for you and for all. God bless!

Blessed be Jesus and Mary!

if interacting with atheists on the internet about evolution or any other topic makes you extrmely upset and angry, then this practice is a danger to your spiritual and psychological health and you should stop such interaction.

news flash–plenty of good orthodox Christians including the Pope have no problem with the theory of evolution. It’s a theory we are free to investigate its merits in the realm of scientific inquiry.

Here are some things to think about. You said you believe in God, but BELIEF alone in God is not the same thing as having FAITH in God. God wants you to have faith in him. God wants us to do more than just believe. For example, the Devil believes that God exists but he doesnt love him, nor have faith, trust, or confidence in him.
…God allows doubts to strengthen our faith…
God allows us to experience high’s and low’s in our journey of faith, and while humans enjoy the high’s, it is the low’s that truly help us grow in faith and trust in the Lord. Exactly. To get stronger in anything, we must excersize and challenge ourselves in that area. To get stronger physically, we must stress and tear our muscles. To get stronger mentally, we must stress ourselves too. For example, if you pray for more patience, God may answer your prayer by giving you challenges that test your patience, like: making you wait in long lines, traffic jams, being on hold, etc…

God is strengthening you right now and also giving you the graces you need to grow. The knowledge that you are under atack by demonic forces is a grace because If you believe in the devil, then you have to believe in God also.

I will pray for you.

Don’t be scared. Fear is from the devil. When feeling like your faith is coming into doubt, it may help to have this attitude:

If you live with faith in God and lead a holy life, then you will have nothing to fear from death regardless of whether or not God exists. If God does exist, then you will recieve eternal life in heaven. If god doesnt exist, when you die you will cease to exist. Either way, there is no harm done to you from leading a holy life and there is nothing to be afraid of.

But, if you choose not to believe in God and do not lead a holy life, you run the risk of hell if your wrong. Now that is something to be fearful of.

I can’t urge you strong enough to stay away from atheists if they are making you this upset. I’ve got enough experience with people that claimed they were atheist only to find out they were Wiccan and Pagans and I’m not kidding when I say I could smell the evil coming from some of their posts. I had to remove myself from one board because it was so vile that I felt like I had just opened a door and I’ve been battling ever since.

I normally don’t like threads/posts or stuff like that in my own posts, but I did have a thread about this yesterday in which I received AWESOME advice and resources about this very thing. Please check out this thread and check out the links provided, especially the first link.

I will pray for you on your journey!
Peace

This is PRECISELY what has happened to me over the last few weeks. I experience the exact same on/off kind of feeling.

I will keep you in my prayers. Just keep doing good things- works of mercy, going to mass, and making use of all the sacraments. That will show who’s side you are on in this matter- God’s. These actions will mean much more than any thoughts or feelings you may have. Grace will get you through this.

Say “Lord I believe, help my disbelief”. It helps. Tim

I was feeling really great today but, then around 4:30 PM I had to go to a “group therapy” and I only got through half of the story on the “therapist” said that I was imagining this and that I have OCD but, she didn’t even let me tell her most of the story and she just ‘diagnosed’ this as happening.

She asked me if I felt better today and I told her I did, because I prayed a lot to Jesus, Mary, and St. Michael the Archangel to help me and she said that I “just believed that the prayers would help”. So she was basically saying that my prayers were meaningless but, I just believed it.

That really hurt me. She assumed that I just recently started praying which isn’t true because I’ve been praying ever since this started. She is saying that I’m putting these thoughts in my head, which I’m not. I never believed those atheists before so, why would I now? I explain what I saw in detail, I was talking to another Christian on a forum and an atheist came in (in their usual arrogant way) saying “there is no God! blah, blah, blah, Evolution! blah, blah, blah!”, no science at all in what he said. I am pretty sure that a demonic force took advantage of me seeing that and got me to think about that. A little while later I felt a surge of fear go through me. And I only saw that once, I haven’t been looking around for this stuff. I’ve just been expirancing thoughts and feelings.

I’ve always been strong in my faith and just brushed off what they have said before, I never took them seriously, so why would I take an ignorant fool who just believes there is no God without even showing anhy evidence? I really felt an evil force behind it. And to even suggest that I just “imagined” this and not even listening to the whole story is just ignorant. It really hurt when she said that.

I had spent all day happy and glad that my faith had returned and then she comes along and dashes it all away.

I am really glad for your site so I can talk to fellow Catholics, you have really helped.

Dylan, check out these links from the Catholic Answers homepage. You may find some help to ease your worried mind there.

And don’t fret yourself over what this therapist may or may not think. It’s OK, none of us are perfect. The only human being who was ever perfect was crucified for our sins a little less than two thousand years ago.

I too, find the folks on this website to be a tremendous blessing!

It’s getting worse. Probably since this started happening a week ago today.

I just don’t know why this is happening to me. I try not to think about this but, it just keeps coming into my mind.

I’m not going to give up, though. I’m trying to fight this all I can.
