In a recent video (I forget which one), Michael Voris said that the television program hosted by the Venerable Fulton J. Sheen was the most popular TV show of its time. Can somebody here on CAF independently verify this claim?

From Ignatius Press:

Wednesday, Dec. 28, 2011:

*…This special double DVD film package includes an acclaimed new film on the great Archbishop Fulton Sheen, Servant of All, along with five of his most popular television programs from **his #1 rated TV series, Life is Worth Living. **

Voris is sort of correct, though I would need to see the video where he says that, since the wording is important. Could he have said “most popular TV show of its kind”?

Some links to back his claim up (partially):

“Life Is Worth Living” ran from 1951–1957 (US ratings here: classictvhits.com/tvratings/1951.htm)

“The Fulton Sheen Program” ran from 1961–1968 (US ratings here: classictvhits.com/tvratings/1961.htm)

Both programs did not make it into the Top 30.

It must have been pretty popular, he won an Emmy.

He won a Prime time Emmy in 1953, and was nominated in 1954 & 1957.

(Had to double check dates.)

😃

Yes, he won an Emmy. In his acceptance speech, he said he wanted to thank his writers, Matthew, Mark, Luke & John.

I can verify it independently.👍😛

Sheen seems to have been as outspoken as Michael Voris. Good for them. I also remembering watching or my parents watching him on TV.

In an episode of The Vortex known as “Bishop Sheen and the Faith,” Michael Voris recalled serving as an altar boy at a Mass where Sheen delivered a homily. I am not going to provide a link to the episode because it appears to violate CAF rules.
