Can you please write this in English?

What you have written is very confusing. I can’t quite tell what you’re getting at.

Had you submitted this sentence in my English class, you would have been told to rewrite it.

My name is Brandee and i am homeschoold, and next year i’ll be 17. But what i wanted to know was when people that are homeschoold and or not in a homeschooling program what do they need to do to get there high school diploma? But my mom said for me to get my high school diploma I will have to tack these class, and if i dont get one right then i will have to pay to do it over. so i need you guys help thank you.

Without wanting to be nasty, you need some serious English and writing education. You should not be allowed to graduate given your inability to express yourself through the written word.

You have bigger issues than where your diploma is going to come from. I hope your mother is aware of this.

First, start by proof reading your posts. I don’t want to sound harsh, but your english skills are not the best.

Google your state’s board of education website and find out your state’s graduation requirements for home schoolers.

In the state of Indiana you are required to complete testing for each grade level, to prove competency. Which means that you are required to test out of your senior year in order to “graduate” from home school. If you have not been tested annually you may find yourself not being able to earn a diploma.

Based on your fears of taking the test you refer to you may not be able to obtain your diploma without a lot of work in the next couple of years.

Sorry for the bad news.

[SIGN]Why is this in the vocations forum?

~Liza [/SIGN]

I think that the answer is the sad state of the OPs education. This should be in the familiy life sub: homeschool forum. But she certainly does need the help. Poor girl probably thinks that vocations is not religious but more of going out and getting a job after graduation.

Just a quick note, not trying to hijack the thread.

Vocations are more than just religious. Vocations is all about what God’s call is to us, be it religious life, the priesthood, the diaconate, married life, single life. While you are correct that is not just about a job, a job may play a part in one’s vocation. Such as someone who feels called to be a doctor to serve the poor.

Perhaps - but not here.

From the Forum Rules:
Welcome to the Vocations Forum – this is the forum section providing a place to both inquire about, and provide information for, discernment or experience regarding vocations in service to the church, i.e., monks, priests, sisters, diaconate, canon lawyers, etc.
Please post all other threads in the alternate forum sections.

While that might be the strict rules, that has not been what has been happening here.

The OP has stated here and on other forums that she has dyslexia. If you don’t know what dyslexia is:

Dyslexia

It is not her fault. It is a learning disorder.

Then, you start talking about her like she won’t be reading this thread. I’m seriously disturbed at the responses. God be with you all.

Now, to answer the OP’s question, getting your high school diploma is a matter that needs to be taken up with the school board in your county. Usually, the homeschooling is registered through the county. Has your mother registered you in the county? If not, she will probably need to take you down to the school board and talk with the officials about having you tested to see what grade level (curriculum) you are on. There are certain guidelines that must be met each year just like if you were in school. The test will register you on a scale to see if you have met all the requirements, and if you are on the 12th grade level, you will be able to graduate. In my state, they allow the graduates to be a part of the graduation ceremony at a public or private school, but that’s something else you will have to ask about. Hope this helps! God bless you.

She has also posted that she contacted the “Camelites in Brooklyn.” It sounds like she is: home schooled (not part of a home school group), has a learning disability, wants to be a nun and wonders how she is going to get a diploma.

Yes, I know this, but we should remember the saints such as St. Faustina Kowalska who had poor spelling and grammar (as referenced in her diary). She was a humble soul. Excellent spelling and grammar are not required for someone to be spiritually rich. 🙂

Of course not. I have no idea what the requirements are to be a Carmelite Nun. But being a poor speller or having poor grammar, shouldn’t stop you.

I was just listing what we know from her posts. AND letting people know why she was posting here in the Vocations section.

I say, take the classes. Offer them up to Jesus like this: “O my Jesus, I offer this for love of You, for the conversion of sinners, and for the relief of the souls in Purgatory.”

Ok. Sorry, I think I got the wrong impression from your post a while earlier. Please forgive me.

Also, I would like to mention, for general interest, that I did a search on the database for the Institute on Religious Life. I think I counted only 7 out of a total of 23 cloisters that require that you have a high school diploma and/or college education. There is a great difference between those who have a desire to teach and be out in the world (i.e. the Dominicans in Nashville) than those who wish to remain in the monastery and pray. There may be a little difficulty reading the Office, but what the particular monastery’s (such as the one in Brooklyn) requirements are is important.

Carmelitegirl93–I would recommend that you ask Mother Maria Luz at the Brooklyn monastery if she believes your dyslexia would hinder your vocation. Or, if they require a high school diploma. Different monasteries have different requirements. 🙂

Whether or not you go to classes, offer up what God wills for you 🙂

I am still not sure what OP is asking. Each state or school district has rules about homeschooling, who may participate, who may teach, how students will be tested and evaluated, how diplomas will be awarded, what must be taught etc. Call your local school board. Do you also need information on religious vocations? Yes you probably need at least a high school diploma to enter most religous orders, and some may require a college degree, depending on the type of work you would be doing.

Hello!..You’re mother should know what you have to do if she has been the one teaching you…she should look into it…Homeschooling is not just teaching your kids …there is a format to be followed, although I don’t know it b/c I don’t homeschool…but there is a group on this site just with homeschooled people on it…look into joining it…Good luck to you…If you have a learning disability, you could get specialized help…Welcome to the forums:)
