I Need to Go to Confession

Hello,

I just did something really, really stupid, and I feel awful. I’ve just said a ton of Our Father and Hail Mary prayers, but I still feel horrible. I want to go to confession, but I don’t think there are any confession sessions for a while. I also don’t know how I am going to get there, because I’m sure my mom would ask why I’m going to confession. I could ride a bicycle to church, which isn’t far.

Does anyone have any advice? I would rather not say what I did over the forum.

Good for you for not stating what you did! No one here needs to know what you did.

Does your parish have a website? Check there to find out when confessions are heard regularly. If it isn’t soon enough (tomorrow maybe), then call the parish office tomorrow. Tell the person who answers the phone that you need to schedule confession with a priest.

Make sure that person understands that waiting until the next regularly scheduled time isn’t an option. That person does not need to know why. Don’t worry about telling him/her that you “committed mortal sin” or something like that.

Also, I would hope that your mom wouldn’t ask why you needed to go to confession. That’s between you, the priest and God. One’s parents should really not be involved in the details.

You could tell your mom what you just told us here: “I would rather not say to you what I did.”

If you think she’ll want to know, then you better wait for another chance. If you can’t go right now, don’t worry. If you die before you go to Confession, God will know you sincerely wanted to go but couldn’t because of reasons out of your control. That doesn’t sound like hell to me, so don’t worry. Just pray so you can find a priest as soon as possible.

Okay, I just checked their website, and it’s every Saturday at 4:00 p.m. I could also email or call them to schedule one. Also, I think it would be kind of odd to talk face to face with the priest about my sins, so I hope they have some kind of screen to obscure vision.

About the talking face to face thing: I used to go behind the screen, but now I go face to face. I find that it gives me more reason not to fall into habitual sin. Having to confess a sin face to face with a priest that I personally know is a reason not to fall into sin. Even though the highest reason for confession is love of God, the addition of having to confess in that way brings the chances of falling into habitual sin much lower. It helps me to claim my sin as my own. It works to get rid of my pride. It’s good for me.

Scheduled time or appointment time, you’ll have the option of face to face or screened more often than not. Call tomorrow if not now (not sure of your time zone) get your appointed, be at peace. God loves you.
