I am fairly new to these forums and hope I am posting my questions in the proper forum. But first a little back ground on me. I am a 65 year old cradle Catholic that felled from grace with the Church after Vatican II, and while I was a 4th. Degree K of C and used the excuse that the changes were too much to accept. I use to say, “If I wanted to be a protestant, I would have become a Baptist or whatever”. Over the years I drifted in and out of the Church, mostly out, until about a few months ago. And then I met a Semi-retired Catholic priest on a small forum he had started that was open to all. Anyway, I have returned to my faith due this priest and do not wish to ever leave again! However, I do have some problems with some of customs of my parish and have read a whole lot of postings on this particular forum and had some of my questions answered here in about the Liturgy of the Mass. Such as standing/kneeling during and holding hands while saying the Our Father and running all over the Church to shake hands. All of those things are part of what I could not accept with the change of Vatican II and now I think I know how to handle those things. But, now my questions here concerns some other things that one of our two priest does & hope some one can answer or show me where I can find the answers. So here goes; 1st. Are there a set number of lay ministers of the Eucharist, both the Body & Blood, according to the size of the congregation? I’ll explain why I ask, a small parish with maybe 200 participants and 4 lay ministers of the Body and 6 of the Blood. 2nd. should the priest allow the lay ministers to give out the Body while he steps to the side, WAY to the side, and presents the Blood?
Thanks!
Rich

PS: I apoligise for my showing of my uneducated display of the English langurge.

What Diocese are you in?
Maybe someone can help answer your question, but it is up to your Bishop to decide about the Hand Holding thing.
The priest sitting out the communion is not correct.
But please understand, you may not get a thing to change. Have you considered a different parish?

He isn’t. According to the OP he is ministering the Precious Blood. While the situation described is unusual, the celebrant is acting as the Ordinary minister of Holy Communion, and I am not aware of any requirement that the celebrant must be stationed in any particular position or that he must minister the Sacred Host rather than the Precious Blood if both are being offered to communicants. If there are specific requirements for these, I am certain later posters will be able to cite the sources.

Don’t apologise for your English.

200 in the congregation and 10 lay ministers plus the priest?!?! If there are 200 people in the congregation, I should think he would be able to communicate them all with the Most Sacred Body, with two of them standing to either side of him to administer the Most Precioius Blood (he could do it by himself through intinction if he was pleased to do so). It wouldn’t take any more time, esp. if it’s Communion in procession. I’m not sure if that counts as a abuse, but it sounds like a lot (1 minister to 20 people!).

in parishes where the priest administers by intinction, and people have a choice of this method or receiving only the consecrated host, this would be the preferred arrangement, of course.

Added this week is an answer to the question of whether it is preferable to omit the bells at the consecration at Mass.

Thanks to one and all for your replies! Thanks buffalo for the link to ZENIT, a great link! I’m finding some good info there. Please take a look here Zenit

I am definantly going to check out other parishes in my neck of the woods. Too many funnys in this one. Wanting to shake your hand inside Church, but not outside. Road rage in the parking lot after Mass, so bad they had to extend time between 2 Masses on Sunday morning, ect.

Again, MANY thanks!
