I need to make a decision about Girl Scout cookies

Logically I always say no. But my stomach always wins when I walk out of the grocery store and they are pushing them in the back alley.

CURSE YOU THIN MINTS!!!
I admit to a weakness for thin mints. I baked cookies.over the Christmas holidays but was too sick to eat any of.them. Now I have an overpopulation of cookies as an excuse not to buy GS cookies

I will NOT buy anything related to Girl Scouts not now or ever again. The fact is cookies are not a necessity it is just a want, however we as Catholics are called to defend life. Is there a link between GS and Planned Parenthood you bet there is! Years ago my great-grandpa was murdered in front of his family for standing up for his Catholic faith the images of his death followed my 96 year old grandma to her grave. If this amazing man was willing to make such a sacrifice for his faith what kind of great-granddaughter would I be if I didn’t follow his example of deep love for our Lord? It saddens me that we aren’t taking it as seriously as we should our Lord deserves better. It’s not about cookies guys there is something deeper going on. If we bend on this (the defense of life) what else will we bend on?

Watch the video below on Kathy Colninger CEO of Girl Scouts USA talking about them promoting contraception (abortifacient) and Planned Parenthood.

You are better off donating directly to the troop - the national council gets MOST of the money from the cookie sales. The troop gets something like 25 cents per box. The national council is affiliated with PP, even if the local councils are not. For that reason, I will not buy the cookies any more. I would also not allow my daughter to participate in the girl scouts, if I still had young enough daughters to do so.
When I read that, it made me very sad. Way back in the day, when I was a GS, the troop got 25 cents per box. But the boxes cost $1 each. Now the council sucks up the majority of the proceeds and the troop is still getting 25 cents.

No, I am not buying cookies this year. Cookie sale time is too close to Lent. 😉 I will happily write a check to support the troop if its a girl I know.

Nope. They are over priced and the local troop gets way too little of the money. I am centainly not funneling money to the national org regardless of what they claim they do. Luckily our pastor kicked girl scouts out of the parish a couple years back. He disagreed with the feminist ideology and insistence on religious neutrality. Ummm… you are using a church for free.

When they show up at my door I politely, but firmly tell them to shove off. Parents that shill for them at work get the same.

You misunderstand. The problem is not that we aren’t taking this seriously. The problem, for me and others, is that we do not believe everything that has been said. If Catholics are following sound moral theology, you have not right condemning them for not following your conscience. While it is possible for a conscience to be over-sensitized, it is also for one to be overly scrupulous. Let everyone follow God as God directs them and judge not those that do not agree with you on matters of internet accuracy.

That’s just the precise problem….This is NOT a matter of internet accuracy as you so put it. There is factual evidence that the internet helped open our eyes to good out a search for the truth.

This just pains me to hear people are just so willing to throw away what is good and just only for the mere taste of cookies that only last here on earth and for a short time as that. The willingness to spit on the cross of OUR LORD in the name of pure selfishness.

This organization does some good matter fact some great things……my daughter was in GS from the day she could join, but once my eyes were open to the truth, it hurts my heart to know that this “so great of an organization” is using our future leaders to assist in killing the future leaders.

Girl Scouts,Planned Parenthood,WAGGS are all deceiving. Yes I know there are many more organizations out there that support the Pro Life agenda. As I become aware of those I will address it the same way.

As inconveniencing as it is to stop buying GS cookies or to better yet stop being a Troop Leader or even GS Member, offer your minuscule “suffering” for the unborn infants.

Of course it is. The GSA blatantly denies any partnership. Other parties insist there is one. Both can’t be true. You believe one and not the other. I believe both. I have two objections. One is remote, remote, remote connection is not a partnership, and that is all I have found. Second, guilt by association is a fallacy. The actions or the affiliations of any GSA official do not constitute policy or any connection. For example, if a priest commits sexual abuse, it does not mean the Catholic Church is pro-sexual abuse.

I have looked through the various anti-GSA site and found that they all link each other and re-circulate two stories. Furthermore the Catholic Church in America said they were going to investigate and see if there was any moral issue to partnering with GSA. If they come out with a decision, I will agree. Otherwise, I think the current partnerships mean that I can morally support this scouting program. Our local program, the only one I have contact with, has no moral issues.

Did you not see the video posted on Youtube of former GS CEO admitting to relationship between GS and PP? As Catholics we are to defend Life. Direct or Remote if you know evil is being done why contribute to it? This is how we continue to aid the pro choice agenda by turning a blind eye to this deception.

That is one of the two things I found. We could do this all day long. Did you not see where the GSA issued a statement denying any partnership? Did you not see Cardinal Dolan honor the Girl Scouts and leaders for their work?

Show me where the Church has spoken in agreement with you.

Anyone who shops or pays taxes has the same level of cooperation.

Hey, if you don’t want to buy them, then don’t. This judgmentalism of those that do not agree with your own opinions is uncalled for. Blind eye, my foot!

The website is a LIE obviously they are deceiving many people. Is it not possible Cardinal Dolan did not know of this partnership at the time? I certainly did not until only a few days ago.

PAYING taxes and buying GS cookies are defiantly not the same! As citizens one must pay taxes you most certainly DO NOT have to buy GS cookies. Call it judgmentalism if you must,the truth is just that, TRUTH and most who need to hear it fail to listen fully!

We all must refuse to believe the lies and stand our ground for what is truly right and just.
ABORTION is a horrible act that must be stopped.

From the CCC

1868 Sin is a personal act. Moreover, we have a responsibility for the sins committed by others when we cooperate in them:
  • by participating directly and voluntarily in them;
  • by ordering, advising, praising, or approving them;
  • by not disclosing or not hindering them when we have an obligation to do so;
  • by protecting evil-doers.
1869 Thus sin makes men accomplices of one another and causes concupiscence, violence, and injustice to reign among them. Sins give rise to social situations and institutions that are contrary to the divine goodness. “Structures of sin” are the expression and effect of personal sins. They lead their victims to do evil in their turn. In an analogous sense, they constitute a “social sin.”

The website is a LIE …
Well, that’s your opinion. And that is a point you do not seem to get. BTW - What part of CCC 1868 do you think applies to buying cookies?

Again, has the Catholic Church weighed in and supported you on your opinion? Until then, I would be slow with throwing around words like “LIE” and “TRUTH.” Neither opinion or CapsLock equate to truth.

I have several friends with daughters in GS, and of course, it’s cookie time. I would like to support them. But, I have other friends who posted links such as this one

lifenews.com/2013/12/04/what-every-pro-lifer-needs-to-know-about-the-girl-scouts-link-to-planned-parenthood/

On Facebook. What I can’t tell is how much of a concern this really is. Are you buying GS cookies? Is there a definitive link between GS and planned parenthood here? I am not that familiar with this above website so I wasn’t sure if it is one to rely on.

Thanks for your thoughts.
We haven’t bought them for years for this exact reason. And I seriously love girl scout cookies. But I don’t love them enough to support PP’s agenda.

I choose not to purchase them.

However, we have received packages as gifts on occasion. I don’t encourage my friends and family buying them and giving us some but we get surprised with boxes of thin mints at least once a season.
In fact, I’m enjoying some thin mints right now! Yummy.

👍 Yes, the merry-go-round of recirculating those two stories tends to pop up every February when the cookies go on sale.

I don’t even buy the cookies. My daughter is in Little Flowers as our parish doesn’t have a Girl Scout Troop. But we need to be honest and accurate in our assessment. If the Catholic bishops are investigating the claims and thus far have not issued any sort of sweeping condemnation or moral imperative for the 500,000 Catholic girls in Girl Scouts in the U.S. to disavow under pain of mortal sin, then I cannot see why others based solely on YouTube videos and websites think that all Catholics must reject the Girl Scouts or else risk damnation. 🤷

Just this week I have been faced with a very similar question…My daughter has been in Girl Scout since she ever could and every year she has been among the TOP with Cookie Sales.

I have done a lot of research on this subject and have even talked personally with a former GS Leader who was horrified at the information she found when searching for the truth about GS ties to Planned Parenthood.

Check out girlscoutswhynot.com

As Catholics we believe that abortion is a mortal/ grave sin and to assist in abortion is also a mortal/grave sin. To say that I am willing to commit a sin that separates me from Our Lord,only because I like how cookies taste is as to taking the whips to CHRIST’S backside.

GSUSA will say that they do not support PP. But that is a lie….GSUSA is guilty by association all GS are also members of WAGGGS who support PP.

But also former CEO of GS admitted in an interview that GS have teamed up with PP.

WATCH THIS VIDEO youtube.com/watch?v=ppX6oXCmHF4&feature=youtu.be

The current CEO of GSUSA also admits to being pro-abortion.

HOSEA 4:6 My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge;
because you have rejected knowledge,

As for me and my house we will not buy GS cookies!
Good post! 👍

I am not going to get in the middle of this argument, but a PSA for those of us who have a deep and lasting affection for Girl Scouts’ Thin Mints:

*Keebler’s Grasshopper cookies are virtually identical to, and are even made in the same factory as, GS Thin Mints. *

I refuse any responsibility for any weight gain, mood swings, or sugar rushes that may result from your receipt of this information. 😉

Now if I could just find something equally similar to their Lemonade cookies…

😃 If you Google “how to make Girl Scout cookies”, there are recipes available for the trying. 😉

Not even close!:nope: Bummer, I wish it were true but that is like saying diet coke and coke taste the same. Or Coke and the generic are the same.

More to the point it is like Burger king is the same as Mcdonalds. Or that Ghiradelli is the same as Palmer. Yuck!

If they were identical, then no one would buy thin mints and grasshopper sales would be through the roof. As it is thin mint is the most popular GS cookie and the grasshoppers at my store collect dust on the shelf.🤷
