I’ve been suffering from a spiritual/mental problem for the past 3 years, and it’s only gotten worse and worse. I’ve been to Confession several times, but at my most recent confession, the priest (he sounded worried) recommended for me to get psychiatric help.
But I can’t tell my parents. Both of my parents have a stigma against mental illness. My mother has a LOT of problems right now, and she’s very stressed and overworked. My father is verbally and emotionally abusive, and because of this there’s a lot of talk of divorce. There is a lot of arguing and screaming going on in my house… and lately my mother has been angry with me. Today she screamed at me horribly and called me “stupid” and said that she never expects any good to come out of my future. 😦 I really shouldn’t be online right now because she said she doesn’t want me online, but I needed to post this.
I’ve been doing bad in school ever since my delusions started. I can’t focus in anything and I can’t touch any of my school supplies such as my books, pencils, etc. because of my contamination fears. (homeschooled)
It’s also a spiritual issue because most of my delusions are about religious things and I think most of it is spiritual warfare, so I think I also need deliverance.

I need prayers… so that I can tell my parents about an important issue. I also want to know; for a spiritual and mental problem, can I see both a psychiatrist and a priest? I think that this is important
I haven’t been able to tell my parents because they get angry at me. I know that my mom will want to disown me for it

Praying to St. Dymphna for your health & recovery. Praying for you & your parents. Please seek the help of a Doctor & Priest.

Praying for you. Yes, you can and should see both a doctor and a priest regularly. Don’t be afraid of telling your parents that you need to see a doctor. Your mother is unlikely to “disown” you. Remember that you are not the cause of your parents’ anger or problems. Pray for them every day.

Hi Popeye14,

I’m so very sorry for your struggles. 😦

I hope and pray that you can get the help that you need.

May God bless you in your time of need.

I don’t know if there is a Catholic Charities in your area … but if there is, they do have priests that are also psychiatrists.

I will be praying for you.

Our Father, Who art in heaven,
Hallowed be Thy Name.
Thy Kingdom come.
Thy Will be done, on earth as it is in Heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.

Amen.

Hail Mary,
Full of Grace,
The Lord is with thee.
Blessed art thou among women,
and blessed is the Fruit
of thy womb, Jesus.

Holy Mary,
Mother of God,
pray for us sinners now,
and at the hour of death.

Amen.

Saint Michael, the archangel, defend us in battle,
be our defense against the wickedness and snares
of the devil, may God rebuke him, we humbly pray.
And do you, O’ Prince of the Heavenly host, by the
power of God thrust into Hell Satan and all the other
evil spirits who prowl about the world for the ruin of souls.

Amen.

St. Thérèse of Liseux Prayer From “Story of A Soul”

May today there be peace within.
May you trust God that you are exactly where you are meant to be.
May you not forget the infinite possibilities that are born of faith.
May you use those gifts that you have received,
and pass on the love that has been given to you.
May you be content knowing you are a child of God.
Let this presence settle into your bones,
and allow your soul the freedom to sing, dance, praise, and love.
It is there for each and every one of us.

Amen.

Lord, thank you that you are with me right now.
Your love surpasses all fear.
I give you the anxiety I feel.
I surrender all my worries to you.
Clear my mind;
Calm my heart;
Still my Spirit;
Relax my being, that, I may
always glorify you in everything
I write, speak and do.

Amen.

Jesus, Help Me

In every need let me come to Thee with humble trust, saying,
Jesus, help me!

In all my doubts, perplexities, and temptations,
Jesus, help me!

In hours of loneliness, weariness and trials,
Jesus, help me!

In the failure of my plans and hopes; in disappointments, troubles and sorrows,
Jesus, help me!

When my heart is cast down by failure, at seeing no good come from my efforts,
Jesus, help me!

When others fail me, and Thy grace alone can assist me,
Jesus, help me!

When I throw myself on Thy tender love as Father and Savior,
Jesus, help me!

When I feel impatient, and my cross irritates me,
Jesus, help me!

When sickness and loneliness overcome me,
Jesus, help me!

Always, in weakness, falls and shortcomings of every kind,
Jesus, help me and never forsake me.

Thank You, dear Lord Jesus.

Amen.

Sweet Heart of Jesus, be my love.
Sweet Heart of my Jesus, grant that I may always love You more.
Heart of Jesus, burning with love for us, set our hearts on fire with love of You.
Jesus, meek and humble of heart, make our hearts like Your Heart.

Amen.

Prayers said. All will be well. Do not fear, the Lord is protecting you.
Do not be lonely, your guardian angel is beside you.
Be comforted, Mother will watch over you, and the
Holy Spirit will guide you.

Amen.

Prayer Against Depression
………….By St Ignatius of Loyola

O Christ Jesus
When all is darkness
And we feel our weakness and helplessness,
Give us the sense of Your Presence,
Your Love and Your Strength.
Help us to have perfect trust
In Your protecting love
And strengthening power,
So that nothing may frighten or worry us,
For, living close to You,
We shall see Your Hand,
Your Purpose, Your Will through all things.

Amen.

Let Nothing Disturb You

Let nothing disturb you,
Let nothing frighten you,
All things are passing away:
God never changes.

Patience,
Obtains all things,
Whoever has God
Lacks nothing:
God alone suffices.

Santa Teresa de Jesús
(Santa Teresa de Ávila)

Amen.

**
My Jesus,
I believe that You are
present in the Most Holy Sacrament.
I love You above all things, and
I desire to receive You into my soul.
**Since I cannot at this moment receive
You sacramentally, come at least spiritually
into my heart. I embrace You
as if You were already there and
unite myself wholly to You.
Never permit me to be separated
from You.

Amen.

Piarist fathers have taught this short act of
Spiritual Communion, popularized by St. Josemaria Escriva:

I wish, Lord, to receive You with the purity, humility and
devotion with which Your most holy Mother received You, with the
spirit and fervour of the saints.

Amen.

**
Thank You dear Lord Jesus, always and
everywhere, for everything.

Amen.

† **

Jesus, I trust in You.

Amen.

Hail Mary, full of grace. The Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou amongst women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death, Amen.

I believe in God, the Father almighty, Creator of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried; He descended into hell; on the third day He rose again from the dead; He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of God the Father almighty; from there He will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and life everlasting. Amen.

Eternal Father, I offer you the Body and Blood, Soul and Divinity of Your Dearly Beloved Son, Our Lord, Jesus Christ, in atonement for our sins and those of the whole world.

For the sake of His sorrowful Passion, have mercy on us and on the whole world.

Do you have a regular family medicine doctor who you could start with? The family doctor can relay the importance of this to your parents and provide a referral to a psychiatrist. It may also be important for the family doctor to know for your health and wellbeing.

Sometimes parents say unkind and untrue things- you have a bright future ahead of you!

I’m saying prayers for you, and agreeing with the above post to start first with your regular MD who should be able to get you on the best course for you.

:gopray:

The Lord bless and keep you,
The Lord lift his countenance upon you
and be gracious unto you.
The Lord look kindly upon you and grant you peace.

Popeye14 you are in my prayers.

I hope that you trust that your parents, though they are struggling right now, want the best for you. If they can’t get you help please consider going to the school counselor.

God Bless you and may Our Lady hold you close and give you Courage.

St. Dominic Savio, St. Aloysius, St. John Bosco, and St. Dymphna Pray for us.

Call the priest and ask if he or someone else at the parish can help you talk to your parents about this. You may have to explain to him what you said and what he said in confession because some priests have the gift of forgetting (which helps them to not reveal what they hear in the sacrament). Or another adult, an aunt or someone?

I am so sorry for the hard times and struggles you are going through. There is a site called MDjunction.com that has some youth groups, but there is not much in the way of religious thought there, so I would keep coming back here if you use it for fellowship and inspiration.

Have you considered talking with a school social worker? In some cases they can be very helpful. Also, tell your priest that you really really need an advocate to speak to your parents.Hearing this from another adult might be helpful. Maybe he could also see you more frequently outside of confession.

Please keep posting here, and asking for prayers, you WILL get them! If you have a rosary, that will help in many many ways. It gives me a great deal of peace, stability, and comfort. Mary, is your mother too. She loves you. We all will be praying for you ok? 🙂

**Prayer to St. Dymphna

Lord, our God, you graciously chose St. Dymphna as patroness of those afflicted with mental, emotional and nervous disorders. She is thus an inspiration and a symbol of charity to the thousands who ask her intercession

Please grant, Lord, through the prayers of this pure youthful martyr, relief and consolation to all suffering such trials, and especially those for whom we pray. (For Popeye14 and family)

We beg you , Lord, to hear the prayers of St. Dymphna on our behalf. Grant all those for whom we pray patience in their sufferings and resignation to your divine will. Please fill them with hope, and grant them the relief and cure they so much desire.

We ask this through Christ our Lord who suffered agony in the garden. Amen.**
