My grandparents are not able to get around very well by themselves, and having someone with them is a big help to them. My mom wants me to go over there to help them, but my dad does not. He doesn’t want me to go over there because he says I’ve already been there too much.

What should I do? I think I’m supposed to listen to my dad.

Try to come up with a compromise they can live with. Like, limit your visits to once a week and about 2-4 hours each time. Then see if other family members can fill in the gap.

The problem is that they live around 40 miles away and they would need me to stay over all night each time.

Whose parents are they? Why is this falling on you? Why does your mother want you to do this and why is your father objecting?

There are a lot of unanswered questions here, including your age. This may be a situation best discussed with a trusted counselor like your priest, who will be a le to clarify the situation and help you sort the various issues out.

They are my mom’s parents. I suppose I’m the only one willing to go. My mom wants me to because my grandparent’s need the help. My dad doesn’t want me to because he says I’ve spent too much time there already. And I’m 19.

You will have to let your parents know that you are in this dilemma. Tell them to be of the same mind. Until then, I think you’ll do well obeying your father considering the fact that he is the spiritual head of the family.
