I’ve created a website which attempts to show the staggering magnitude of abortion deaths in the US and around the world:

If you could help me with any of the following I would be very grateful:

Spreading the word. Please forward the address for this site to others.

Fact checking. My intent is to present the facts honestly, because I believe the numbers speak for themselves. I’ve based all the Javascript calculations on actual data from the Guttmacher Institute as well as the Johnston Archive. However, if anyone has different sources, or knows of a compelling reason not to use a source I’d like to know. If you see an error with my data based on these sources, please point it out to me.

Technical error checking. This is my first website as well as my first use of Javascript and CSS so please be kind! 🙂 However, if you have comments, suggestions or criticism about the way I’ve coded anything I’m open to receiving all. One bug I’m aware of is that the “All Data” doesn’t attribute deaths to the countries/states correctly. In other words, China should flash most often no matter what time period you view because China has the largest current rate of abortions, even though Russia (and USSR) has the largest historical total. Does that make sense? I’d also really appreciate it if you could point out any errors you notice on a particular browser/version. I’m still working on getting everything to work in Internet Explorer, but the more modern browsers (Firefox, Chrome, Safari) should be looking and functioning much closer to the ideal. I developed using Chrome and Firefox.

Content suggestions. If you think something is worded or presented awkwardly or you just have a better idea for how to present it, I’m all ears!

Translation to other languages. I’d like to reach as many people as possible around the world with this info, so if you’re fluent in another language, please help me translate the page.

At some point I’d like to expand the website to include other “culture of death” categories like execution, euthanasia, etc…hence the website name, but the data is a bit more challenging and I’m still trying to figure out how to present those topics.

this is a good website, to make people aware of the deaths, so many souls sent to God already before they can even be baptized!

i would also want you to include all the countries of South America, but if thats not possible then Colombia and Venezuala and Brazil.

Thank you Paul. Are you asking that I include all the countries of South America in the data that’s shown on the website? Or are you asking that I translate the page into all the languages that are spoken in South America? I think you’re suggesting adding the data.

This is something I’m still considering. I currently display the 50 “worst offenders” in the “world” views and the 50 US states plus Washington, DC in the “US” views. Mostly this was just because 50 seemed to fit nicely on the page and didn’t require scrolling up and down. Also, the top 50 captures over 99% of the world grand total.

Does anyone else agree that I should include all countries (for which I have data) even if it messes up the layout of the page?

I just went back and checked the sources. There is virtually no abortion data available on those two websites for Brazil or Columbia. Venezuela has a very small total and didn’t make it into the top 50. I’ll try to expand my data sources to include more countries…hopefully someone can point me to some data.
 
I think you should list your sources on your site to make it more reputable.

Also, perhaps you should include some written passage about the intent of your site.

That is awesome technology that you used!!! I like it!

Thanks Angela. I think I’ll list the sources at the bottom like you suggested. I may try to find space for a “mission statement” as well, although my hope is that the numbers will be shocking enough when people see them.
