Everyday I wish my life was different, that there was meaning in my life. That I have a purpose to live and to better myself. I have fantasies that I could do things like they do in the shows like fly or be able to control energy or something. Something that would make me special, something that would give me meaning.
First, you need to get some theraputic assistance for this depression. Your school has counselors who can assit you. Go talk to sooene who is not on a message board.

Second, every human person has a purpose simply by the fact that they exist. They have a vocation, you, I guess no one told you, have a vocation. Here it is:
1877 The vocation of humanity is to show forth the image of God and to be transformed into the image of the Father’s only Son. This vocation takes a personal form since each of us is called to enter into the divine beatitude; it also concerns the human community as a whole.
God isn’t some far off mystical power that doesn’t care about you. If He were, He wouldn’t have come to live among us and suffer with us and die a gruesome death so that we can be happy forever. Being happy forever with all the love you can want forever is your destiny. It’s like a treasure on top of a mountain. Thing is: you have to climb the mountain.

Christmas is coming. I want you to get out of your own head and stop thinking about how miserable you are and find a place where they are serving Christmas dinner to the homeless and GO THERE and volunteer. Go wash something or chop something. Go do something.

You have enormous power at your disposal, you just don’t seem to know that. You ARE a superhero. YOU can change lives. Not through extraordinary energies, or mutant abilities, but through the acts of giving of yourself for others.

The love and companionship you want will come of it’s own accord when you put yourself in the hands of the One Who loves you for all Eternity and Trust Him.

Now, go find someone to talk to. Then go find out where the homeless people eat on Christmas. Then go read Saint Luke’s Gospel. Maybe do the last thing first…

God bless you abundantly.

I have had black times… and I do not have any friends outside my family members.
I admit your experiences are probably worse than mine, but the perception for me was similar. I have a chemical imbalance.

Whether or not you believe God cares, He Truely does.
I would start with two simple prayers everyday

Good morning sweet Jesus and Blessed Mary too, All I do today I do for the love of You.
Dear God, I need help. Please increase my faith and comfort me in my loneliness.

Even if you cannot be sincere at first, as long as you give it a chance it will change your life.

You might also try a Rosary… running to our Mother is very healing.

This may sound counter intuitive, but I have found that the less Media I expose myself to the better I feel.

May God send you peace.

Please don’t take pity on me. I just want you to understand. In my 18 years, I have experienced more things that have made me emotionless and heart broken then most people do. This is why I need a purpose. I need to know that I am needed.
This may seem odd, but I’m going to start by quoting Dumbledore at you. “Do not pity the dead, Harry. Pity the living, and, above all those who live without love.” What you need is a friend. My first advice (and this can work wonders) is to open your door. That’s it. My entire first trick for making friends in college. People are a whole lot less likely to come and talk to you if your door’s always closed.
  1. You said you’re in college. Well there are two people on your floor who you should feel comfortable going to for a friend and advice: your roommate and your RA.
  2. Get out of your dorm, already, and be active. Find a club to join. It doesn’t even have to be outside your actual dorm building. One of my favorite clubs is dorm government. There’s also good clubs outside of your dorm. You said you like anime? There’s probably an anime club.
  3. Be active at church. I, at least, sing in the choir every Sunday evening and play flute every other week. And I know you said you want a physical friend, but seriously, go to Adoration. And if your Newman Center is having a retreat, which I’m sure they will at some point, go on it.
  4. Don’t ever say that your family doesn’t love you. I’m sure they do.
  5. The other best advice I can give for making friends– Take a lesson from the BSA. Learn the Scout Law if you weren’t a Boy Scout. I, like you, did not have many friends growing up. And yet, I currently have a girlfriend and have even become some sort of friends with a stranger on a train once. How? By following the Scout Law. How did I meet my girlfriend? She was new to a club we were both in, and I thought she looked like she needed a friend. How did I become friends with a stranger on a train and later at Mass? Again, by being friendly, courteous, kind and helpful.
(A scout is trustworthy, loyal, helpful, friendly, courteous, kind, obedient, cheerful, thrifty, brave, clean and reverent)
  1. You’re right that we should fear God. But not in the way you seem to. An alternate translation of that Gift is Wonder and Awe in the Lord’s Presence, which is what I felt the few times I’ve been to Adoration.
  2. I personally think that every day is a good day when you brighten someone else’s. No words are required. 55% of communication is non-verbal (okay, the number’s actually 93%, but that includes tone of voice and the like). It can be as simple as sharing a hymnal with the girl sitting next to you at Mass. Or even as simple as this: SMILE 🙂

Don’t take this the wrong way but, you sound a bit depressed. Have you considered taking to a counsellor or therapist about these issues? I’m not speaking about your search for God but the feeling of being unloved/uncared for.

God Bless

When I was a teen, I struggled with depression (so bad that I was suicidal) and it sounds to me that you may be struggling with depression as well. Many people your age go through the same things and you are not alone. I know that I went to counseling and it helped me immensely. Try it, it can’t hurt.

I am speaking from my experiences and what I have felt. Once you have felt my pain, then you can understand.
There are people in the world that have it worse then I do. But when I see them, I see light and not darkness. My life is darkness and I have come to terms with that. I am hoping there will be light one day, which is why I need a purpose.

Please don’t take pity on me. I just want you to understand. In my 18 years, I have experienced more things that have made me emotionless and heart broken then most people do. This is why I need a purpose. I need to know that I am needed.
If you want to find purpose, you should try to search outside yourself. Do some corporal works of mercy, try to find the light outside yourself. It seems like you are spiraling inward, collapsing in on yourself. Super Nova-ing. The more you revert inward, the lonelier you will feel.

Reach out. Search actively for the Dawn at the end of you Darkness.

The Love you are looking for is something you will never find on earth. Even if you do find a friend or a significant other whom you love, they will eventually disappoint you. You will get in fights, you will get angry, you may even fall in and out of friendships or love. That kind of love, while important, will never satisfy your inner longing.

But there is something that will. The ever-present, inextinguishable, selfless, unconditional Love from God for you and unless you find and accept it, you will never truly be happy, no matter how many friends you have.

Seek unconditional, selfless love in people as well. It exists, though rare and hard to find, but when you do, it is a precious gift from God that will make you feel whole.

Agape, from God first, then from humans second, is what you crave and is what will bring you out of Darkness. You need to feel Agape toward others as well.

God Bless you, sweetie! I’ll pray for you!

Hello,
I am going to start off by introducing myself. My name is Chris H. and I am 18 years old and attending college (soon to drop out).

I have and am having some tough times and I don’t know where to turn. I have a hard time talking to my parents for I am to proud to express my feelings.

I have lived under the assumption that there is a plan for everyone and that God has a purpose for everyone. I believe there is a God, but I don’t believe that God is with us. I believe that God is an all knowing God and all powerful God and that we should fear him as the Bible says we should do.

Let me break this up by stating what has currently happened. I am a kid who has no friends, I have tried to make friends but am not able to make any. I know that my family loves me because they say they do. Yet, I can’t stop getting the feeling like they don’t.

For the past few weeks I have taken time to watch a few shows on tv, one especially called Naruto. I understand that this is a kids cartoon show, but I have become fond of it. I see what the meaning of a friendship is and what love is. My heart longs for something like that feeling, like someone that is not related to me will always be by my side no matter what and will be there for me. Everytime I watch this show my heart stops and beats at the same time from pain and a longing for happiness. I have been lonely my entire life, I am tired of it and am loosing Will to progress any further. I have become something that I wish I was not. I think you know what I am talking about by being angry, mad, depressed, lonely, and confused. Mostly confused.

The show, Naruto, is based around the premise of what purpose is. I have seen that a person needs a purpose to live and be happy.
That is my problem. I have no purpose. If I were to have a purpose it would be that I cause pain and suffering around me indirecly.
In the show I have related to a character named Gaara. Gaara has a demon inside of him and has been shuned by his community for what is inside of him that he did not place there. He experiences everything that I have felt, but the only thing that makes us different in that he kills people. I wish not to kill people, although sometimes I feel like I would like to. In the show, Gaara has found a purpose in his life and that made him change into a better person and he now leads his community as a “president” so to speak.

Everyday I wish my life was different, that there was meaning in my life. That I have a purpose to live and to better myself. I have fantasies that I could do things like they do in the shows like fly or be able to control energy or something. Something that would make me special, something that would give me meaning.

Of course I don’t have that and therefore I am in a predicament.
I don’t know what to do. I have no purpose, therefore I am not living and I am not dead.

I have found that nothing in this world makes me happy, other than the fact that maybe one day I will have someone that will be my true friend and maybe find love.

Until that time, my life serves no purose in this world and I don’t know what to do.
You will 100% meet a wonderful girl and marry a wonderful lady. I guarentee it (and I’m a harsh critic). I know it in my bones just from reading your post. The issue is your `18 and waiting stinks. What you can do is go out places such as coffee shops or the park, malls, etc and say hi to different gilrs or groups of girls. Get used to talking wiht them. Go from there…
