My grandmother during her recent trip to Lebanon got me a Catholic Bible from her Maronite friends. I’m not Catholic but I do like the Maronite Catholic Church and conversion has come into my mind a lot.

Let the desire for the fullness of truth be lit as a small candle in your heart. That flame, tendered, will lead you to a more complete understanding of God and His role in your life.

The “artifact” from your grandmother is sure to be cherished, I know I would.

Blessings.

Read the New Testament first, in slow dosages, first praying to the Holy Spirit for help. It will be of great profit to you!!

Unfortunately she is not a Christian but I always wish the best for her and my family.

I know why I really like this site -
These type of posts - truly make me smile !

A Grandmother’s gift - nothing nicer 😊

I identify unofficially with the Eastern Orthodox but as of recently the Maronite Church has caught my eye.

They are a Syriac Church in communion with Rome but they are extremely Latinized nowadays due to close ties with Rome, even wearing the Latin mitre.

From Lebanon? Is it an Arabic bible (the Jesuit translation popular there?). I want one of those…even if I can’t read Arabic.

It is great to hear that you received a bible from your Grandmother. As you know, the Maronites are in full communion with the Roman Catholic Church.

There is a Maronite community here in Petersham, MA. I’ve wanted to attend one of their masses for ages. Maybe I will go on Saturday. I don’t speak Aramaic, but I have heard that their masses are an incredible experience.

I hope you put your new bible to good use.

It’s an English Catholic Bible, by the way the biggest mistake of the a Maronite it’s Church was transferring to Arabic and using Arabic Bibles the original language or the Maronite Church which is sitll sometimes used in Church is Syriac-Aramaic.

I’m not entirely a Maronite I still also identify with the Orthodox Church.

From what I can tell, some of the dialect of Arabic speaking Syrians still carries some old Aramaic words. Not that I would truly know… it’s just what I heard, and could make out from some prayers (I love the Lord’s Prayer sung by Orthodox and Maronites especially).
