Maybe. It might be that you are missing the pageantry only. It could be that you are missing the fullness of faith that is found only in the Catholic Church.

I’ve visited other Christian churches and missed the “rituals” of the Catholic Mass. I didn’t realize it at the time–I tought I merely missed the routine of genuflecting, kneeling, etc. What I really missed, without realizing it, was the substance behind the ritual.

I think someone who hasn’t ever been Catholic might not understand the “pull” of the fullness of faith–You don’t always miss what you never had. And yet many non-Catholics are drawn to the faith–not because they want to genuflect and kneel and smell the incense. They sense,somehow, that something is missing in their faith life.

How much more is that sense of something missing if you once were a devout Catholic.

Why do you doubt that Christ is God’s son?

I find this interesting. The one main subject that is left out of this discussion is Jesus himself. Any religion (even christianity) can have religious people or devout people. What makes Christianity stand out from Budhism, Taoism, Hinduism, Islam, and other pagan referrences? The personal relationship with the historical and ever present person of Jesus Christ. We can discuss religion all day long. What about Jesus? What do you believe about him? Is he real? If so in what way?

Basically, it boils down to this Jesus said the work we must do to please the father is to believe in him. (John 6) How?. Well the Gospels point out the real person of Jesus Christ. He is the incarnate son of God the 2nd person of the Trinity. There is no other God apart from the Most Holy God as it says in Dueteronomy. Shema Israel (Hear O’ Israel) the Lord our God, The Lord is one. And Jesus is the incarnation of God. He lived among us and it is recorded faithfully for us in the Gospels. Read them. The Holy Spirit (3rd person of the Trinity) will lead you into Catholic fellowship of this I’m certain. But Jesus is the reason we’re catholic. Its about him. Not us, not our philosophy. But the person Jesus Christ. Everything starts there. The Eucharist, the Liturgy, all of it. Religion is dead. Jesus gives life to our faith. The Holy Spirit breaths life into all the things we do as Catholics.

I completely agree. We need to discuss Jesus’ claim to be the Son of God. Who do you say that He is?

My belief system changed, I no longer think Jesus is the son of God, I am very hindu in my belief (It is kind of funny being a white hindu ) but there has always been something pulling me towards Christianity ever since I became spiritually empty.

Have you spent time reading His gospels? This could be a great spiritual exercise, read what Jesus is saying, ask what God is trying to say to you then, is He God Incarnate or only just a man. I would suggest the gospel according to Mark.

But throughout my entire spiritual search, there was a part of me that still longed for my native Catholicism.

Go towards the blessed sacrament in the tabernacle ask if Jesus is truly present there. If you do not feel the presence of the one true God, then leave, but persevere in asking!
