Which denominations have valid baptisms according to the Catholic Church?

I will assume Orthodox, Lutheran, Anglican

beyond that, I dont know.

The reason I ask, is I get the feeling I cant just get baptised in a catholic church, but they will accept baptisms from these denominations, that to my limited knowledge, wont require me to also be a member if I am right?

I am not unwilling to be a member of the Catholic Church, or bypass anything, I am merely concerned with the baptism aspect, because it sounds like I could be in a bad situation if I dont do something soon. I know its been explained to me, baptism of desire, but to me, the desire really becomes manifest when the person has the nerve, to actually do this, not when they are waiting to do it because of an impediment.

I dont want to do this the wrong way, and hopefully a priest will be calling me soon, but in the meantime I am really obsessed with this. Thankfully, my child was asleep when she came home, or I would be having an angry husband now. I have done nothing but agonize over all this for days. Its supposed to be easy, for those with more grace, but I dont have it. So, I am trying my best now in spite of that deficiency.

For the most part, Protestant baptisms are regarded as valid, provided the Trinitarian formula of being baptized in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit is used. If one isn’t certain of this, they offer a conditional baptism, which will be the person’s baptism if they were not baptized and will be a sprinkling of water on the person’s forehead otherwise.

There are sects that do not baptize using the Trinitarian formula, and those baptisms are invalid.

As far as I understand, the vast majority of Protestant baptisms are valid, as most heed the Biblical command to baptize in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

.
LDS don’t believe in the trinity, either.

NowWiseOne… Please don’t fret. Relax! The Lord said “Peace be with you.” And that is what he means! It will all get worked out on a schedule that is much slower than you seem to have patience for. Relax and bask in His Glory. Relax and let Him love you. The priest will call and help you take care of the details. Relax. Peace be with you.

I can’t say your path to the Church will be an easy one, but I can say it will be worth it. Go give that loving man you married a hug. OK?

Yes, but he also said repent and be baptised, and the alternatives are not very pleasant, if one wants to and puts it off, and well…
kwim?

You are right. He seemed pretty nice actually. Its just that he seemed so, well- intimidating too, not on purpose, its just my perception of it. I mean, I realized he was not just another guy to catholics, he actually is very important. But, in a good way, not a scary way.

Oh, he is happy. 😉

Plus, I made sure to put on his favorite tv shows I taped earlier for him. He loves Maverick. He can watch it non- stop. That, and John Wayne. And, James Cagney in Strawberry Blonde. He will fall asleep on the couch tonight!

The ones you list are generally on all the lists. However each diocese has their own list. The reason is that many protestant communities do not have any specific regulations on exactly and specifically how Baptism is administered. Because most Protestant Communities are independent of each other. The Baptist Community in Podunk may not Baptize in the exact manner as the Baptist Community in Jonesboro 10 miles down the road. Baptisms can be different with each different Protestant pastor. Each Catholic pastor is responsible for seriously investigating each persons Baptism who presents themselves to become Catholic. He does this in cooperation with the Bishop and the diocese. Because without a VALID Baptism, NO OTHER SACRAMENTS CAN BE VALIDLY RECEIVED!!

I was reading a thread where some people get rebaptised, and now I can see why thats wrong, so I am glad catholic priests take time to investigate it, and do it correctly, and I am assuming record it in some way. Thank you!
