Has anyone rebuked their parents, in a charitable and respectful manner of course, and has felt bad afterward? After this happened, the next day I felt dissappointment and sadness.
He started yelling at me and I told him that I deserve to be answered back in the same respectful manner as I am talking to him, I do not need to be yelled at because I can perfectly hear him. That I have dignity also and he is trampling over my dignity by treating me in the manner that he is treating me. My step-father cares too much about what other people think and say. This isn’t the first time this topic comes up, and he knows that I don’t care what people think or say about me. This was the whole point of him yelling at me, because he mentioned it. I told him that if this was the real reason why he is upset. He tried to dodge it and I brought it up again. He was really defensive and was avoiding this reason. I told him, “Dad, why do you care more about what other people think or say than what we think as a family? Do you not see that worrying about what other people think is slavery. Are you sure that everyone you know really appreciates you for who you are?”
He didnt reply to any of this, but my mother told me that she started thinking of what I told him and said that I did have a point in what I was telling him, but still, I couldnt avoid feeling the way I did.
