Well, yesterday (Sunday) I was given half of the bread because it simply broke, and also it was almost finished. I felt weird. In my mind I was saying, “I did not receive the full body of Christ” and I felt bad. But later I said something like, “Jesus I still accept you”.

Is this okay? Has this ever happened to any of you?

ANways… I just wanted to share. 🙂

Sometimes if the priest uses a large host for himself he’ll break it into smaller pieces that will get distributed to members of the congregation.

Absolutely nothing wrong with getting such a piece.

Remember each piece (even each visible crumb) contains the completeness of the body, blood, soul and divinity of Christ. No such thing as getting ‘more’ or ‘less’ of the Eucharist, whatever the size or shape of what you receive :yup:

Maybe it would also help you to remember that even if you were given two hosts stuck together for some reason, that would not be any more than if you received one host.

It is extremely common for a priest to break his large host into smaller pieces.🙂 I received one of those just last weekend.

Oh sure. Lots of times. Sometimes it’s a piece of the large host used by the priest. Other times it’s a piece of a smaller host. When you are towards the end of the Communion line you will often see the minister of Holy Communion breaking the hosts into smaller pieces.

A few weeks ago at Mass, there was an unusually large congregation, and not enough Hosts had been consecrated, so the priest instructed all of us who were EMHC’s to break the small Hosts in half to avoid running out.

That’s exactly what happened. They ran out. The hosts that are distributed are perfectly round. What I got was half of the host because it broke sitting under the other hosts before it.

Yep. THat’s what I was thinking. It’s just that I never had that happen to me before. Now I feel like God did that so that I can ask you guys’ opinions and learn something tonight! 😛 🙂

One other time at Mass, they did run out of Hosts, so one person received from the Chalice only. She still received all of the Sacrament, only in the form of the Precious Blood. Jesus is still complete, Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity in either form.

Happens a lot. Its no big deal; you still received the full graces of holy communion. Don’t worry.

this was surely just a momentary emotional reaction, you do know and believe of course that the individual hosts represent one Body, blessed and broken for all. And you are of course aware that as long as one particle of the consecrated host retains the appearance of bread, it remains the full body, blood, soul and divinity of Christ and must be treated as such.

As an EMHC I have been instructed to break the Host in smaller pieces if we do not have enough to distribute it to everybody. I do it and I am happy that everybody can receive it , but it makes me feel uncomfortable, I still feel like the priest should be the only one to break the bread. The other problem is dealing with the larger number of particulates, this is the time when me must stress even more that we must keep our thumb and index together at any time.

Jesus is fully present in each crumb of the host. So you did receive Jesus. That is why it is so important that the priest or deacon must purify the sacred vessels so that no particle of either the precious body or blood is left in the ciborium or chalice.

Thank God for sending us his Son and Thank Jesus for instituting this Holy and Wonderful Sacrament of the Eucharist! Bread for the Journey.

As a Minister of Care to the homebound, often the person can only receive a very small piece of the Host. Still, that small piece has all the Jesus they need!😃

Amen! Those poor elderly cannot swallow the whole Host; some just have 1/8 of the Host.

Two years ago on this forum someone said how could all those different Hosts be Jesus ?

Last week stumbled on this analogy, take a mirror, break it into as many pieces as you like, then stand over them…there you are, a perfect image of you in everyone, no matter how many times it’s broken.

So no worries.

So no worries.

Or, she suffered from celiac disease, and received the Cup as she would get an allergic reaction to the accidents.

No this was daily Mass and I see her a lot. She always receives both kinds of Communion, but since Hosts were all gone, she received from Chalice only. But for allergic reactions, only receiving from the Chalice is fine also.

Reading this brought to mind an incident a few weeks at Communion. I receive on the tongue, one of the very few who receive this way in my parish. Well Monsignor was unprepared and when he held the host up it was on of the large wedge shaped pieces from the larger one, it was nearly three inches long and he darn near impaled me with it!!
