Hi, I ride a certain brand of motorcycle and they came out with a model that is slang for the devil and market it as such. The limited edition has 666 bikes available, etc. My bike is a 2016 and this model is 2017, so I had no idea about this “once off” bike before I bought mine. They actually also donate bikes to the Vatican, so I’m at a loss. Any advice would be appreciated. My local priest says no problem.

They just make motorcycles. I would complain to Harley Davidson if it would do any good. You are perfectly free to own their bikes, but I would not be the one with that particular name.

The fear of 666 is a made up Protestant superstition. The earliest texts actually have the number 616…but I think that’s alot less spectacular and visually appealing so the fear of 666 was adopted.

Dodge makes a car called a demon too.

I don’t think it’s really a big deal. Camaro came out with the exorcist in response. It’s just marketing.

No, it’s not that at all. Just wanted other peoples perspectives.

I don’t think it was superstition over the number so much as the marketing ,combined with the model name and the limited number (presumably chosen in keeping with the theme) was selling evil as cool.

My point is that 666 isn’t even the actual “evil” number. It’s 616. 666 was popularized as evil by people who translated the Bible for their own purpose.

Those who promoted 666 make it as if there is power behind that number. There is none.

Yes, it’s being used now because “evil is coooooool” but it’s pure ignorance.

All of these comments have been helpful. But yes, it was more about the marketing hype and possibly being disrespectful to God.

Well, the question to ask is why would they want to name a bike something seemingly bad and evil?

Skulls and death symbols have been popular for at least ten years now. I’m not a philosopher or anthropologist or any -ologist but perhaps it does tie in to some degree with what JP II termed the “culture of death”.

Either way - they’re dangerous 😇
Be careful out there !
As a side note, I’m reading “ The Power of Silence “ -
Glad I just have a car with a muffler - lol

10 years?

pirates used skulls and crossbones. The Greatful Dead and a ton of that stuff is a product of the 1960’s…not the 2010’s.

Well, I did say “at least” 🙂 But I think there is more to it than just some superficial thing. I have not pondered it deeply enough to say for certain one way or the other.

Although I am an 80/90’s kid my first parents were very much caught up in 60’s rock’n’roll and drug culture. The cover to Division Bell by Pink Floyd scared the ever living crud out of me

Thank you. I try to remember a prayer before each ride. I went into this purchase with purest of intentions, so I’m hopeful that is what’s important to God.

Oh, I love Pink Floyd. 🙂

By the way, it IS a sin to ride a motorcycle that kills people’s eardrums. 😮 Normal Harley’s are okay, but I would love to crack down on those persons who have the special kind of pipes that you can hear even from space.

Special place in Hell for those loud bikes, that’s for sure. I’m on a rural road. Loud bikes during nap time or after bedtime doubly so…they are writing themselves an instant ticket.

It’s one reason my husband looks forward to self-driving cars. If all cars are automated then motorcycles will have no legal standing for making so much noise “to keep them safe”
