They did not show her ever participating in a Mass - I am not sure if she was allowed to have a priest to officiate a Mass while in captivity. There were no religious statues or paintings where she was.
She only said if she became queen she would not prevent the Protestants from
practicing their faith.

Queen Elizabeth did have regrets about killing Mary. She thought that she was going to hell for killing an anointed queen.
Elizabeth was probably also worried about the example it would set - if Mary could be killed, then so could she if her subjects turned against her. Given that her mother Anne Boleyn was executed, in spite of being anointed Queen Consort, it was a real possibility.

Yes, she famously did something as well just prior to her execution, something to do with her Catholic faith but I don’t remember what it was now. She was brave I remember that. Didn’t she forgive her executioner?
It was standard procedure for those being executed to forgive their executioners.

The executioner being the one doing the deed or the one giving the order?

If the former I’m curious why they felt it necessary to forgive if what they were doing was seen as essential to the health of the state. (Not questioning what you’re saying, just wondering about the logic behind the custom.)

Customary to forgive the executioner who would be doing the actual despatch.
