Hi
It was me second time on Omegle and I was just randomly going on it and this guy showed me his ‘thing’. I just ignored it and moved on to another chat and saw the same thing. Then I stopped. Have I sinned?

This is very embarrassing for me

I have never heard of Omegle until now, as I just looked it up, and it appears one just talk to strangers. It also appears that u can have a “text” chat and a “video” chat. I’m assuming u did a “video” chat, and that’s how u ended up seeing his “thing”. Maybe it’s just me, but I would totally avoid talking with complete strangers on there.

And no, I don’t think u sinned, since it doesn’t appear to have been your intention to see the guys’ private parts, and it seems u immediately left both chat sessions. I don’t know if there’s a way to designate what gender a person is, but if u are setting the option to female, and if other people are able to see it, then it definitely increases the chances of perverted guys doing perverted things if they know the person whom they are talking to is female.

Anyway, if I were u, I would simply avoid sites whose purpose is live-chatting with complete strangers, since I can only imagine the kinds of people that lurk on there.

I don’t think you sinned as long as you didn’t ask to see it…

And yeah, I’ve been to Omegle many times, that’s pretty much all you see…that’s why I don’t go on there anymore, lol.

I do not see the use of going to an anonymous, random chat service on the Internet where there could be anyone doing anything. Omegle claims to prohibit nudity and “being pervy” but its Terms of Use are clearly no help if people are doing it anyway. Either avoid this completely or use the text-only option. I can see this being an interesting vehicle for evangelization for someone with a particularly strong stomach. It seems like you could reach many lost people and invite them for a discussion on the Catholic faith and possibly initiate a conversion this way. But for ordinary people, especially a young single woman like I think you are, anonymous random chat is to be avoided. As your mother used to warn you, don’t talk to strangers.

I’ve found 99% of those on Omegle are looking for one thing and one thing only, and asume you are too. That’s why I’ve also stoped using it. It’s a good concept but give people the anonymity of the internet along with such a website and the true them will come out. Even the chat section is full of weirdos.

I actually went there to talk to new people and maybe have some intelligent conversation with them not for THAT. Thanks anyway. I will keep all of your thoughts in mind.

I actually tried it out of curiosity as a result of reading your thread. The first thing I was asked was m/f? When I replied male and 61 years old the other person immediately disconnected.

No I don’t think you have sinned, as sin is tied to intent. Do mention it in confession as your Priest is a sure guide.

The website - on the evidence of one experience - seems to be useless and implies that people are on there for one reason and it is not edifying each other in Christian love.

It may be another field for evangelisation so I will approach it like that, but if it becomes a waste of time I would rather spend it in prayer.

God Bless all.

Yes, unfortunately Omegle seems to be a favorite hangout of exhibitionists and the like.

I would recommend just avoiding the videochat altogether and sticking to text chat if you use Omegle. I’ve actually had some lovely conversations through the textchat before. Keep in mind though that for every polite grandma from Tibet who uses Omegle to improve her English conversational skills there are 5-10 not so polite American teenagers who use the site for other things, so sometimes it takes awhile to find a nice stranger to talk to. But there are indeed people on there worth talking to (or at least there were 1-2 years ago, I haven’t used the site recently), if you aren’t scared off from the site completely from the experience. It just takes a while to find them.

A general rule of thumb is to disconnect from anyone who asks “m/f” etc. and stick with the ones who want an actual conversation.
