I think sending a letter to the priest was a good idea. The next step should be to talk to him so he could advise you personally. Perhaps your guardian would change his mind about you joining a church? What is his problem with that?

I think I will be going to the 11am mass tomorrow and wonder if he will talk to me then,

During 1 of the classes last year in RICA the bishop showed up,During the part where he was taking questions I brung up what I had read about non Catholics in some situations being able to recive the Eurchrist.

He said that is true it does sometimes happen,I didnt get to talk to him privately about my situation and have not been about to get to talk to him since then.

I think she is saying that due to the brain tumor and related disabilities she isn’t allowed to go to non catholic churches and would like to recieve the Eucharist (possible special dispensation?) in the catholic church because it is the only church that isn’t kicking her out for uncontrolable cussing.

Another problem she is having is her gaurdian willnot allow her to become catholic.

Since she is living under their care and has no means of independent support, she does not have the ability to change this circumstance.

When she attends non-Catholic services, they ask her to leave and to not return - and at one point someone even told her that she didn’t love Jesus enough, since He would not heal her of this disorder - but when she attends her Catholic parish, the people welcome her, and are understanding of her condition, without passing judgment on the condition of her soul. She also strongly desires the Sacraments of Anointing of the Sick and Holy Communion, to receive the graces she needs, to endure her illness.

The priest is pretty busy on Saturdays and Sundays. The best time to call for an appointment is during regular business hours during the week.

A Catholic isn’t required to tithe or even to make any financial committment.

If you believe in the Catholic Eucharist you should become a Catholic if possible. There is no charge. Tell your guardian that joining a church might not be a mistake for you. You are in a different circumstance than he was. He might change his mind.

The priest is not likely to get back to you until at least Monday or Tuesday. Weekends are extremely busy, for priests.

It’s better to wait for the priest to have a chance to respond. He will tell you whether you need to contact the Bishop, or not.

RCIA is not required and due to your condition I would certainly encourage you to see a Priest who can help you. If you have bad luck with one seek another, some are more understanding than others.

Since RCIA is part of the process here it normally is something that all who are seeking to become Catholic should take part in. Due to the circumstances there is probably an exception, some RCIA classes are quite good and some are blatantly heretical. Ultimately we are responsible for seeking what is best for our own spiritual good and faithfulness to Christ.

Since everyone should be Catholic, I encourage you to seek a Priest and follow Jesus as much as physically, spiritually and mentally possible. Our Church is a beautiful faith and is quite perfect in its cohesiveness and teaching since it comes directly from Jesus, yet our people can be a handful and we often fail in our faithfullness to Christ.
So forgive\ have patience with any Catholic who does not live up to the faith and seek your own holiness.

Please know that you MUST believe what the Church teaches about the Eucharist before you are considered ready to receive your first Holy Communion. No one has a “right” to receive the Blessed Sacrament (who IS Jesus) – it is a wonderful privilege. The congregation receiving the Eucharist together is a sign of unity of faith. Before you receive the Eucharist, you must share in this unity of faith. So please call and make an appointment with the priest.

Please be patient – remember that a parish might have 700, 1500, 2500 (etc.) families.

Please do not expect to hear back from the bishop directly. He will probably pass your letter on to your pastor. Remember that a bishop has dozens of parishes to tend to, and many responsibilities. Bishops cannot always respond to individuals – that would be the pastor’s job.

In the meantime, whether you are Catholic or not, you are most welcome, as are all, to participate in the liturgy of the Mass. Continue to celebrate the Word of the Lord and to celebrate his magnificant Paschal mystery (His suffering, death and resurrection).

Since you have Internet access, I suggest you study what the Church teaches about the sacraments of the Eucharist and Confirmation (Part II, Section II).

Tourettes is a neurological disorder that impairs the impulse and language centers of the brain as well as the frontol lobe of the brain that controls the nervous system that regulates movements of the mouth, tongue and vocal chords. Therefore, persons with this syndrome often curse or make other noises as well as has very observable ticks and unusual facial behaviours.

In many fundamentalist ecclesial communities this condition is considered to be “the work of the evil one” and the individual is refused admission.

I know about this condition because I minister to people with neuropsychological disorders and have run schools for such adolescents in the USA and in the missions.

Often, people with developmental disabilities that impair their functioning in a social setting are not required to attend a full program of RCIA. There are other programs that the Directors of Religious Education call SPRED for such persons. They accommodate to the person’s disability. The degree and intensity of the disability will determine how long the program lasts and how intensive it will be. Most diocese have religious educators who are trained in SPRED.

The OP has to speak with the pastor and with the DRE of the parish. They will know if the condition merits SPRED or the individual can function in a typical RCIA setting.

They have a live web-cam broadcasting from their Adoration Chapel. This is a service especially for shut-ins and others unable to travel to get to a church. I find this site very helpful when I am sick. Since the Church has determined that if you watch a Mass live on TV, it is the same as if you were there,(you assisted at that Mass), Adoring the Blessed Sacrament through a live web-cam is the same as being right there… It was the same for when Pope Benedict XVI gave his special Blessing when he was first installed as Pope from the papal balcony. Anyone watching it live received the blessing.

I tried to call the priest he answerd the phone but all he kept saying was Hello

me and my grand ma talked about my graveyard wishes tonight and my funeral wishs

she said she wish she could do something to help me be able to go to non catholic church again

cause so far all this has brung me was more depression stress and it might have even helped my tumor grow faster

I asked her what does she think the Priest would say if he knew this
she stated he might not even care the way people are now days

I am so miserable sometimes I wish this tumor would just do its job and kill me cause this happening slowly is driving me crazy

Make an appointment with the parish secretary to see the priest personally. That always gets things moving a little faster. If the priest is not available, ask for an appointment with the parish deacon.

It seems that you expect that the priest will be available to you 24/7. That is an unrealistic expectation on your part, and I hope you’re not making judgments about the priest because he’s not meeting expectations you are personally setting. Like any of us, a priest must take care of himself. He eats, hangs out with friends, and RESTS. Priests are not super-human. Usually, there’s an “emergency” number on the parish answering machine, for those who immediately need the anointing of the sick, but in your case, as depressed as you are, you’re not “emergency status” as far as needing a priest personally on a weekend. Please don’t call the priest at his home. Call the parish during regular office hours, and make an appointment with the priest. You can tell the staff person it’s urgent and you need to meet with the priest as soon as possible. In the meantime, keep praying. Satan is doing what he can to “stir the pot” of your emotions, because he wants to bring you into greater despair and away from God. Remain patient, trusting that the Divine Healer is with you – open up your heart to him.
It is obvious that your grandmother is anti-Catholic and will continue to make disparaging remarks about the priest and about the Catholic church. Please try to ignore her words when she is less than charitable, to forgive her, and to love her.
I hope you’ll call the parish office in the morning.

Let me see if I understand all of this. You’ve been attending a Catholic Church for the past year …

the Priest surely noticed my disorder within the past nearly a year of going to his church

… not because you believe that the Catholic Church is the one true faith but because the churches that you are use to will not allow you to go because of your condition …

Last Sunday

… and now you wish to receive the Eucharist but you are unwilling and/or unable to officially join the church …

I had enought of RCIA last year

RCIA cant help me if I am not allowed by my guadian to join churches

its against my guardian wishs for me to join it

… It appears, at least to me, that the priest is really out of the picture with regards to this issue and you should be focusing your attention on the bishop as he is the one who needs to give the permission to the priest to give you communion – unless, you want the priest to act on your behalf – but, in which case, the bishop will mostlikely want to talk to you anyway so it might be faster if you were the one making contact with the bishop in the first place.

Getting on the bishop’s calendar is not going to be easy but the sooner that you get the ball rolling, the sooner it will happen. Call the office, explain that you already sent a letter and impress upon them the urgency of talking to the bishop. The bishop’s calendar may be booked up for weeks or even months but he might be able to squeeze a telephone conversation in a few days.

When talking to him, clearly explain your request and the reason for that request. Be well prepared ahead of time by perhaps writing everything out because it may be your one and only opportunity to speak with him.

To answer your original question …

They way I understand your laws, The priest needs to get the bishops permission to do it before he can.

I hear lots of Catholic churches have there first Communion service in May,

If I do get the permission I need I wonder if that’s when it will start?

Will he just walk up to me before a mass one morning and say I got the permission you needed you can receive it now during mass

… normally, the priest will not just walk up to you and tell you that you can receive communion.

… it sounds to me like you do not see yourself as a Catholic and may not fully understand what the Eucharist means to Catholics and that makes me wonder why you are so interested in receiving the Eucharist? Is it because you see other people receiving our Lord? Is it because you use to receive “communion” in the other churches that you use to go to and you now want to receive in the Catholic Church as well?

You do not need to answer here because it is none of our business; and while I do not know for certain, I would think that these are the type of questions that the bishop will address to you and your reply will greatly determine what decision that he makes in regards to your request. Just something to think about and be prepared for.
